Fractional Video Director

Foundation
•$45 - $65

About The Position

Foundation is seeking a fractional Video Director to lead its video program from strategy through production and quality assurance. The program supports more than 100 videos in production across clients, and the role will improve its quality and cost efficiency by sourcing partners, setting standards, building workflows, and representing the work to clients. The videos are designed to be found and cited, including YouTube videos, social-friendly clips, expert interviews, and explainers that answer questions buyers ask AI. The role prioritizes clarity and usefulness over production polish. Foundation helps B2B technology and SaaS brands build visibility across LLMs, search, Reddit, and YouTube, serving clients in SaaS, HR and payroll technology, financial services, insurance, and higher education. This fractional role will establish video quality and production processes, manage vendors, advise internal colleagues and clients, monitor costs, and test AI-assisted tools. The first 90 days are expected to produce a QA checklist and review process, a vendor audit, a documented production workflow including in-house editing and scripting pilots, and an agreed cost-per-video baseline and target. Success will be assessed through revision rounds, turnaround time, cost control, budget as a percentage of revenue, client satisfaction, and video-related escalations.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of experience in video or film production, including creative director or senior producer roles.
  • Experience managing video production at volume across multiple vendors and freelancers.
  • Working knowledge of YouTube titles, hooks, retention, search, and video discovery.
  • Confidence communicating with clients, defending creative decisions to senior marketers, and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Practical knowledge of AI video tools, including where they save time and where they fall short.
  • Comfort working fractionally in an async-first, decisive manner and focusing on the highest-leverage problems.

Responsibilities

  • Own video quality standards and the QA process for every video, from script through final cut.
  • Source, vet, and manage video vendors and freelancers, including editors, scriptwriters, and creators; hold them to quality, turnaround, and cost expectations.
  • Build a repeatable production workflow, including in-house editing and scriptwriting where these outperform outsourcing on quality or cost.
  • Track cost per video and keep the program within budget.
  • Coach the creative producer and video strategists on production, feedback, and client handling.
  • Explain to clients why videos are built for discovery and push back on feedback that could hurt performance, including feedback on talent choice, length, or format.
  • Test AI-assisted editing and scripting tools and adopt those that meet the quality bar.
  • Create a video QA checklist and review process used before each video ships.
  • Audit vendors for quality, cost per video, and turnaround, and recommend next steps for each vendor.
  • Document the production workflow from brief to publish, including in-house editing and scripting pilots.
  • Establish a cost-per-video baseline and target with leadership.
