Requirements

  • A compassionate and empathetic individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of victim services, criminal justice procedures, and available community resources (training will also be provided).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of paraprofessional work experience in criminal justice, social work, crisis intervention or a related field that involves the provision of direct human services.
  • Recognized post high school education in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field may be substituted for the work experience requirement on a year for year basis.
  • Candidates are required to pass a Driver's License and Caregiver background checks (a Caregiver background check is conducted through the State of Wisconsin Crime Information Bureau).
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Offer support to victims and witnesses, ensuring they have a voice, information and support throughout the criminal justice process.
  • Assist individuals in understanding their rights, legal proceedings, and available resources.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other agencies to assist those involved in the case.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support, notification, information, and referrals.
  • Collaborate with community partners and organizations to expand the network of resources available to those in need.
  • Keep accurate and confidential records, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and up-to-date.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in victim services.
