Victim Witness Program Coordinator

About The Position

Under the supervision of the District Attorney, this role is responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Cayuga County Victim/Witness Services Program. This includes identifying crime victims, advising them of their rights, and guiding them to relevant community services. The coordinator will also assist victims in understanding and participating in the criminal justice process. Requirements

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field
Thorough knowledge of the court system and proceedings occurring therein.
Thorough knowledge of relevant community services and agencies.
Ability to get along well with others.
Ability to use an alpha-numeric keyboard and utilize various types of software utilized by employer.
Ability to maintain a strict code of confidentiality.
Proficient in typing and maintaining filing system.
Good address.
Good judgment.
Tact and courtesy.

Responsibilities

Review felony and misdemeanor charging documents and supporting documentation to identify victims and help assess the type of services required.
Communicate by telephone and correspondence with victims, witnesses, and service providers.
Attend local criminal courts and county court with crime victims where appropriate.
Provide assistance to victims with filling out crime victim's compensation claims.
Advise victims of relevant community services and make referrals to those agencies where appropriate.
Comply with statutory notification and reporting requirements.
Act as the District Attorney's liaison with community agencies and groups such as but not limited to Domestic Violence Coalition, SAVAR, Cayuga County Child Sexual Abuse Task Force, etc., and attend meetings as designated by the District Attorney.
Maintain, compile, and report to the New York State Crime Victim's Board services provided through the program.
Compile relevant statistics on program goals and objectives and assist the District Attorney in writing the grant application to continue the program for the succeeding fiscal year.
Enter necessary information into database.
Perform related work as assigned.
