About The Position

The Victim Support Specialist provides administrative support pertaining to direct victim services at the Kids’ HOPE Center. This is a part-time position (0.5 FTE) with 40 hours per pay period, working day shifts. The role is funded solely by federal grants from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), and its FTE status and long-term feasibility are contingent upon the Center’s receipt of these grants. Requirements

  • High school diploma with additional specialized college level training in the fields of social work, sociology, corrections, or counseling
  • Knowledge of problems confronting victims of crime
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal rules, laws and regulations, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of local public and private Coos community resources
  • Knowledge of short term crisis intervention techniques
  • ODOJ Crime Victims’ Compensation Certification or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 90 day grace period
  • ODOJ Address Confidentiality Certification or must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 90 day grace period
  • Current Oregon driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Completion of an Abuse Report History form and authorization (required for Kids’ Hope Center employees and volunteers by the Oregon Department of Human Services)
  • Minimum of six months of supervised direct victim advocacy/family support experience
  • Minimum of two years of responsible experience in community service providing direct client assistance or services
  • Background in working with children and families who have been affected by abuse
  • Focus on continuing education and assures use of best practices
  • Experience and/or training in child development, mental health, psychology, social work, or related fields

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual communication skills preferred
  • Background in working with children and families where allegations of abuse and/or neglect have been made preferred
  • Background in coordinating services for child victims and their families accessing Coos community resources preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews, peer reviews and case consultations
  • Comply with the center’s policies and procedures
