About The Position

The State Attorney's Office, First Judicial Circuit is seeking to hire a Victim Advocate I in their Milton, Florida office. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The purpose of this role is to provide direct support to victims of crime throughout the Criminal Justice System. Victim Advocates serve as a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and victims, explaining the criminal justice process, referring victims to community resources, and informing them of their rights. This position requires maintaining ongoing contact with victims, keeping them informed about court hearings, and providing emotional support and guidance. Responsibilities include attending depositions, conducting victim interviews, attending court proceedings, and assisting victims with paperwork.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Experience in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent of training and experience.
  • Must be able to pass a background check for employment.
  • Must provide proof of identity and proof of US citizenship OR legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must practice safe workplace policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance and job performance level.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree may be substituted for experience.
  • A background in social work, criminal justice, psychology, and/or related field is preferred.
  • Training, and/or work experience in the dynamics of victimization, community services and crisis intervention is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to victims of crime through each stage of the Criminal Justice System.
  • Act as a liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and victims.
  • Make initial contact with victims of crime to explain the criminal justice process.
  • Refer victims to appropriate community resources.
  • Advise victims of their rights within the criminal justice system.
  • Maintain and document ongoing contact with victims.
  • Keep victims informed of their right to attend and provide input at each crucial stage of the court hearing.
  • Act as the primary emotional support for victims.
  • Provide guidance to victims during the criminal justice process.
  • Attend depositions.
  • Hold victim office interviews.
  • Attend court proceedings.
  • Assist victims with paperwork as necessary.
