About The Position

The Vice President of Underwriting will play a critical leadership role in evaluating, structuring, and underwriting commercial real estate debt investments, with a primary focus on hospitality assets and other income-producing properties. This individual will lead complex underwriting assignments, provide credit recommendations, mentor underwriting professionals, and partner closely with originations, asset management, legal, and executive leadership to facilitate successful loan closings and portfolio performance. The ideal candidate possesses strong commercial real estate credit expertise, exceptional financial modeling skills, and deep experience underwriting hospitality and bridge lending transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, or Business Administration
  • Minimum seven years of experience related to real estate investing, investment banking, or capital markets
  • Significant experience underwriting hospitality assets, bridge loans, and value-add real estate investments.
  • Strong understanding of commercial lending structures and credit risk management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be prompt and punctual in responses and all assigned tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including team members in satellite offices

Responsibilities

  • Lead underwriting team and coordinate with originations team and legal on all deals in process
  • Credit analysis and underwriting for real estate and debt and equity investments in all types of commercial real estate
  • Interact with borrower-sponsors and mortgage and investment sales brokers
  • Overseeing and managing the real estate and legal due diligence processes, including direct interaction with borrowers, sponsors, and internal/external constituents
  • Direct responsibility for due diligence of the borrower-sponsor, business plan, market analysis, and financial analysis and modeling
  • Direct responsibility for the legal due diligence and closing process
  • Preparation of term sheets, credit memos, and presentation to credit committees
  • Monitoring progress and performance of assets in comparison to budgets and timelines
  • Gathering presentation materials for the summary and dissemination of information related to investments
