About The Position

The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for leading and scaling an engineering organization that delivers foundational technologies and capabilities that power user and client experiences. This leader sets the engineering vision, drives architectural excellence across application and infrastructure layers, and ensures scalability, reliability, performance, privacy, and security for products and platforms. This role reports to senior engineering leadership and is a key member of the engineering leadership team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible engineering and technology leadership experience, including leading teams under an Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizations of 50+ engineers, and subordinate senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success shipping large-scale consumer and/or enterprise products and platforms.
  • Deep technical background with experience across any of: Mobile engineering and large-scale iOS/Android deployments, Web platforms, design systems, and frontend architecture, High-throughput APIs and distributed system design, Cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure), Containerization & orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling, Observability platforms (metrics, tracing, logging), Reliability and high-availability practices
  • Experience driving reliability practices and operational frameworks.
  • Ability to manage and scale hybrid onshore/offshore engineering models.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Strong ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a highly productive, inclusive, and mission-driven engineering organization.
  • Define and execute the technical strategy for foundational platforms and experiences that support large-scale usage across devices and channels.
  • Establish a north-star architecture for scalable, extensible, and modular capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple products.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing engineering leadership team across platform, frontend, backend, infrastructure, and operations domains.
  • Represent engineering in senior executive forums and influence company-wide technical strategy.
  • Oversee development and delivery of best-in-class capabilities across mobile, web, backend services, and platform foundations.
  • Guide architectures for high-throughput APIs, design systems, content management, and member/customer-facing core services.
  • Drive large-scale mobile and web platform rollouts, ensuring consistent performance and user experience across markets.
  • Lead development of capabilities that may include health metrics and insights, profiles and preferences, personalization, device integrations, dashboards/home surfaces, messaging and chat frameworks, push/in-app/omni-channel communications, feature management and product analytics, and data/interoperability layers.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance of systems with an emphasis on low latency, accurate data, and seamless connectivity where applicable.
  • Partner closely with Product, UX/Design, Data Science/Data, Security, SRE/Infrastructure, Clinical/Domain teams, and Marketing (as applicable) to translate needs into high-quality, repeat-use experiences and robust platforms.
  • Collaborate across stakeholder teams to drive consistency, reusability, and shared foundational capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with clinical and data teams to ensure experiences support outcomes-driven care where applicable.
  • Influence roadmaps for company-wide channel and platform capabilities used by multiple business units.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards for quality, performance, privacy, and security.
  • Drive operational excellence with strong reliability practices (SLIs/SLOs, incident response, resilience engineering).
  • Oversee development and operations of infrastructure footprint, including cloud architecture, container orchestration, CI/CD systems, reliability frameworks, and performance/observability tooling.
  • Monitor platform performance, ensuring response times, uptime, and capacity meet expectations.
  • Manage a mixed onshore/offshore team model to ensure productivity, alignment, and quality.
  • Build strong hiring, talent development, and succession planning processes.
  • Manage budgets effectively, balancing innovation velocity with cost efficiency.
