We’re looking for a passionate and curious VP, Sample Management to join our team. As a Vice President, Sample Management at Evotec, you'll have the freedom to ask the hard questions, think outside the box, and find creative solutions that push us forward. The primary role of the VP Sample Management and Site Head is to oversee the Branford site and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective support of Branford’s operations. The role is responsible for directing all departmental activities and projects, overseeing the day-to-day management of operations and resources, and providing strategic leadership in close collaboration with other department sample management heads.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, with relevant achievements.
  • Must have a demonstrated record of achievement with sample management operations.
  • Strong understanding of terminology and concepts in Process Chemistry, Sample Management, High Throughput Screening (HTS), Informatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, and the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to create and present both oral and written presentations with confidence.
  • Training and experience managing external contracts.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and analyze spreadsheets to evaluate data and make recommendations
  • Must have experience and expertise in creating proposals to support potential client needs
  • Prior experience in project coordination or management on federal contracts, subcontracts, procurement, compliance, or proposal development; experience in purchasing, cost accounting, or financial analysis
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines and associated pressures
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Must have a track record of efficient time management with the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Comfort with reasonable travel, both nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Attend regular meetings with global and local support functions (HR, Facilities, Finance, ESG, etc.) to coordinate operational and strategic support for the Branford site. This scope includes, but is not limited to: Environmental, Safety and Governance (ESG) initiatives Identification, monitoring and management of key site risks (risk register) Employee communication and engagement activities Employee recruitment, onboarding, and integration of new employees Business continuity, emergency response planning, and related processes Employee health & safety and oversight of the site sustainability action plan (in collaboration with EHS)
  • Partner with Quality to ensure implementation, communication, and ongoing awareness of required policies.
  • Coordinate and lead site-wide Town Hall meetings and participate in new employee onboarding activities.
  • Participate in monthly U.S. Site Head Forum meetings to align on organizational priorities and share site-specific insights.
  • Oversee all departmental activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational excellence.
  • Manage group leaders, team leaders, and senior managers to plan, set, achieve, and review objectives for discovery projects and programs.
  • Provide senior scientific leadership and operational guidance across all areas of the department.
  • Work closely and manage with cross-functional project teams; lead selected projects as content owner and contribute expertise to others.
  • Manage and optimize the department’s budget, investments, and resource allocation in accordance with group policies and strategic priorities.
  • Hire, retain, motivate, and develop departmental staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Support employee growth through targeted development actions, including training, coaching, and internal mobility initiatives.
  • Manage external relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring service quality and strong professional partnerships.
  • Ensure full compliance with client expectations and maintain strict confidentiality of studies, research activities, and client data.
  • Oversee workload distribution, resources planning, and project scheduling across the department to ensure timely and effective execution.
  • Lead, contribute to, or sponsor continuous improvement initiatives, including those utilizing Lean methodologies, to enhance efficiency and operational performance.
  • Ensure all activities comply with applicable Quality, Health, and Safety procedures, fostering a safe, compliant, and well-managed work environment.
