About The Position

Everest has established itself as one of the foremost facultative markets in the United States and is currently seeking a VP of Property Facultative Underwriter to support this. The role involves building and maintaining direct and intermediary business relationships, cultivating, underwriting, and binding opportunities at your discretion. Responsibilities include managing a team of underwriters in Chicago, New York, and Warren, NJ; underwriting and managing a substantial portfolio of national risks across various occupancies through broker and direct channels, covering pro rata and excess structures; developing new business opportunities to achieve company growth and profitability goals; collaborating with actuarial, contract wording, accounting, law, and claims departments; adhering to pricing and selection standards; maintaining awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies; acting as a referral approver once underwriting authority is obtained; assisting in developing junior staff; marketing and travel; managing risk on a portfolio basis; and assisting with the improvement of underwriting processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience as a senior underwriter with 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to interpret catastrophe modeling and actuarial methodologies and output.
  • Knowledge of attritional loss costs.
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Extensive knowledge and experience underwriting profitable portfolios.
  • Highly collaborative and able to work effectively across the organization as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt and embrace change, solutions driven.
  • Tenacity and decisiveness, with the courage to take risks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates respect for the opinions of others.

  • Capable of managing a large portfolio.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Facultative experience is a plus.
  • Middle Market, Large General Property, Complex Risk and Boiler & Machinery underwriting experience preferred.
  • Established relationships with brokers and direct markets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of underwriters located in Chicago, New York and Warren, NJ.
