About The Position
S+B James Construction is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Vice President / Project Executive (VP/PX) to lead and expand our presence in the San Diego market. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving regional growth, cultivating strong client relationships, and leading high-performing teams, with a focus on the Education and Healthcare sectors. The ideal candidate will bring strong local relationships, a strategic mindset, and the ability to both win work and successfully deliver it while growing the business from both a client and team perspective.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in construction operations, preconstruction, or business development
- Proven leadership experience within the AEC or related industry
- Strong understanding of Education and/or Healthcare construction sectors
- Demonstrated success in business development and revenue growth
- Experience building and scaling teams and operations
- Established network and presence in the San Diego market
- Proven track record of securing work through RFQs/RFPs and relationship-based pursuits
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and grow a business
- Valid driver’s license
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the San Diego regional business unit with full P&L responsibility
- Develop and execute strategic growth initiatives aligned with company objectives
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align regional and company-wide goals
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including early-stage client engagement
- Oversee all phases of construction projects, from preconstruction through closeout
- Ensure compliance with DSA regulations and requirements
- Drive performance related to schedule, budget, safety, and quality
- Proactively identify and mitigate project risks
- Implement best practices, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency
- Lead and support pursuit strategies, including RFQs, RFPs, and client interviews
- Drive business development efforts within the Education and Healthcare markets
