About The Position

As a Vice President, Portfolio Management Team Leader, you will be in a leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of Portfolio Managers who support our Lending and Deposit Sales teams. Your team is responsible for tasks related to portfolio health management, regularly providing insights to leaders about the portfolio's performance and trends. Western Alliance uses a team-based approach to portfolio management, so you'll work with a team that includes commercial bankers, business development officers, and credit analysts, and partners from credit administration, loan administration, and credit risk review. This role represents the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position in the financing arena. This role serves as a senior leader for the Entertainment & Media portfolio, providing oversight, guidance, and escalation support across a team managing complex, industry-specific credit structures and client relationships.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of related experience in Portfolio Management or similar field.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous leadership experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial credit and loan structuring, pricing dynamics and has market specific awareness.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review the work from Portfolio Managers, including loan presentations, rating reviews, credit applications, financial analysis, extension of credit limits, action plans, provisional risk scoring and usual portfolio management requirements.
  • Oversee the identification of risks issues, close monitoring of and reporting on the status of the borrower and underlying project conditions, including escalating to appropriate departments where appropriate.
  • Supervise a variety of general portfolio management activities, including credit concentration reviews and portfolio optimization, critical analysis of trends and factors impacting various client projects.
  • Prepare reports for management based on team's analysis related to under-performing assets and recommends mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality work product delivery by actively managing workflows, balancing workloads across the team, and enforcing cycle-time and accuracy standards.
  • Oversee the processing of approved loans; controls the process to validate that loans are processed according to agreement, customer needs and conform to Bank lending policies.
  • Contribute to projects related to maintaining and improving internal credit and loan administration policies and procedures.
  • Compile and analyze market research data to develop recommendations regarding products and services focused on needs of target market.
  • Engage in business development activities and solicitation of new business based on the target market.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers and business development teams to support growth initiatives, evaluate new opportunities, and ensure alignment between origination strategy and portfolio risk discipline.
  • Develop and maintains customer data base including calls and results on all new business relationships and referral sources.
  • Make reports to superiors as required.
  • Lead and develop a team; responsible for hiring, coaching, performance management, training and development.
  • Review, interpret, and negotiate loan agreements, guarantees, collateral documents, and other credit documentation to ensure alignment with credit approval and Bank policy.
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of periodic borrower financial statements, collateral reporting, and borrowing base certificates; monitor financial and borrowing base trends and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Monitor and manage production loan performance, including evaluation of interest reserve adequacy and identification of emerging risks.
  • Monitor portfolio performance holistically, identifying emerging risks, industry trends, and concentration dynamics specific to entertainment and media lending and recommending proactive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and/or oversee formal quarterly risk reviews and portfolio assessments summarizing performance, trends, risks, and recommended actions for senior management.
