About The Position

The Vice President – Operations is responsible for the successful, efficient operation and functioning of the four manufacturing plants, maintenance department, yard, warehouse, fabrication planning and scheduling. This position directs operations on a 7-days per week, multi-shift basis to assure quality products are produced on schedule at or below the estimated costs while maintaining a safe work environment. The Vice President – Operations has direct accountability for plant safety with assistance from the Safety Coordinator, Safety committee and the EHS Department.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in a leadership position in the steel bridge fabrication industry or similar, appropriate business
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical) or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Directs operations to assure the manufacture of quality products, safely and on schedule, at or below the estimated cost, to assure profitability.
  • Serves as active participant on High Steel Structures LLC Management Team to ensure Company goals and strategic plans are met.
  • Develops and maintains sound co-worker relations and communication programs to foster a participative culture resulting in an efficient, profitable, and safe working environment.
  • Provides leadership in planning, establishing, and carrying out short- and long-term manufacturing objectives covering manpower requirements, methods improvements, levels of efficiency, capital equipment, machining returns, plant layouts, etc.
  • Collaborates with appropriate management personnel in establishing fabrication processes, quality standards, production schedules, etc.
  • Directs data collection efforts and analyses through the oversight of the Fabrication Planning and Scheduling functions.
  • Utilizes information to effectively manage all fabrication departments so that optimum efficiencies are achieved.
  • Directs maintenance supervision in both pre-planned and scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency maintenance for all facilities.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources Department and the Safety Committee, to develop and maintain sound co-worker relations within all areas of responsibility, and implement policies affecting personnel (such as safety, discipline actions) to increase and/or maintain co-worker engagement at a high level.
  • Develops and maintains a well coordinated, efficient organizational structure, provides guidance and direction to subordinates with a view toward their personal and professional development, recommends (with Corporate guidelines) salary adjustments for personnel reporting directly to him, and develops and maintains, through communications and delegations of authority, an atmosphere that encourages creativity and motivates personnel to assume greater responsibility.
  • Keeps informed on general business and economic trends and developments related to fabrication techniques, processes and equipment by implementing and changing systems to gain a better return.
  • Conducts regular staff production meetings with those reporting directly to him to insure the coordination of the group’s activities toward a smooth flowing, harmonious operation.
  • Conducts a proactive co-worker communication program by holding regular meetings, plant walk-arounds, contributing to company publications, etc.
  • Develops meaningful departmental goals and long range strategic objectives corresponding to the Corporate Goal Statements, in collaboration with other managers and with input from key departmental personnel.
  • Supports and ensures compliance with all goals in areas of quality, safety, environmental needs, customer service, etc.
  • Develops proposed capital and operating budgets for the areas of responsibility, in collaboration with Accounting personnel.
  • Monitors and controls the budget and operation of the different departments and areas of responsibility.
  • Aids the Vice Presidents of Sales/Marketing and Project Management, Estimating and Field Operations, and Technical Services in preparing bid data by aiding in the evaluation of historical data, exercising good business judgment, and informing them of the capabilities and limitations of the manufacturing departments.
  • Approves wage increases for co-workers in area of responsibility not reporting directly to the incumbent.
  • Reviews and approves expense reports submitted by personnel reporting directly to incumbent.
  • Keeps the President, High Steel Structures LLC, informed on problems and progress within the manufacturing area, provides advice and counsel to the President as requested and required, and performs special assignments as directed.
  • Coordinates with and gives timely manufacturing progress reports to the President, High Steel Structures LLC for distribution to the Management Team.
  • Advises President, High Steel Structures LLC of proposed major changes in staffing requirements or changing the length of times or shifts.
  • Promotes a favorable image of High Steel Structures LLC with outside contacts and endeavors in all activities and associations to further the interest of High Steel Structures LLC and the High Leadership Philosophy.
