About The Position

The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates high ethical standards with the ability to make sound, timely decisions.

  • Knowledge of homelessness services, case management, addiction recovery, mental health, discipleship, education, and community outreach.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and systems that produce measurable outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead organizational change while maintaining strong relationships and team cohesion.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, financial, and project management skills.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships with internal departments and external organizations.
  • Practical knowledge and application of biblical principles and discipleship.
  • Ability and willingness to share the Gospel and participate in all ministry activities of Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership during crises, emergencies, and high-stress situations.
  • Strong performance management skills.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial stewardship, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrates a sincere desire to serve Him.
  • Serves as a consistent and authentic witness for Christ in both conduct and communication.
  • Exhibits spiritual maturity consistent with evangelical biblical standards and KGM’s employee handbook.
  • Demonstrates compassion for individuals experiencing homelessness and hardship, with a passion for life transformation ministry in an urban context.
  • Interacts with all internal and external stakeholders in a courteous, respectful, and Christ-like manner.
  • Demonstrates integrity, wisdom, humility, and the ability to make sound and timely decisions.
  • Maintains a flexible, cooperative, and servant-leadership mindset.

  • Supports and models a drug- and nicotine-free lifestyle.
  • Master's degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field required.
  • Current Michigan licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in ministry, behavioral health, social services, rescue mission ministry, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading leaders, managing multiple departments, and implementing organizational strategy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with homelessness, addiction recovery, mental health, trauma-informed care, discipleship, and transformational ministry strongly preferred.
  • Experience in program development, outcomes measurement, and organizational change management preferred.
  • Biblical counseling training or certification preferred; willingness to pursue additional training and development required.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the senior leadership team, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
  • Provide executive leadership, with full responsibility and accountability, for the strategic direction, operational effectiveness, financial stewardship, spiritual direction, and measurable outcomes for all guest-facing ministries and programs, including: Men’s Ministries (Emergency Services and Next Steps), Women’s Ministries (Emergency Services and Next Steps), New Life | New Hope Program, including Children’s Ministry and Education Department, KDC, Outreach Ministries, including the Health Clinic and Shower Outreach Trailer.
  • Ensure that all guest services, programs, and ministries align with KGM’s mission of life transformation through the power of Christ.
  • Develop, implement, and continually evaluate strategies, policies, and procedures that promote program excellence, operational effectiveness, and transformational outcomes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, accountability, and professional development for all direct-report managers and directors within assigned departments.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate key performance indicators, program outcomes, and guest success metrics to ensure effective stewardship of organizational resources and mission impact.
  • Lead the organization’s transition from measuring primarily outputs and services delivered to measuring meaningful transformational outcomes, developing systems and accountability measures that evaluate KGM’s effectiveness in helping guests move from crisis to stability, from stability to growth, and ultimately toward life transformation and calling.
  • Promote and oversee a coordinated continuum of care that integrates emergency services, case management, discipleship, education, outreach, and long-term programming to provide guests with a clear and supported pathway toward life transformation.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify barriers to guest success and implement innovative, evidence-informed, and biblically grounded solutions.
  • Ensure that all programs and services are delivered with excellence, compassion, dignity, accountability, and a commitment to gospel-centered transformation.
  • Foster strong partnerships with community agencies, churches, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and other organizations to advance KGM’s mission and increase available resources for guests.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives within all assigned departments.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets in collaboration with department leaders and executive leadership, ensuring sound financial stewardship.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to homelessness, addiction recovery, mental health, education, outreach, and transformational ministry.
  • Provide leadership during critical incidents, guest crises, and organizational emergencies as needed.
  • Model a Christ-centered lifestyle that demonstrates a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
  • Participate in all required organizational meetings, board meetings, trainings, and ministry activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
  • Identify, mentor, and develop future ministry leaders through intentional succession planning, leadership development, and coaching.
  • Ensure all assigned departments operate in compliance with applicable federal, state, local, licensing, accreditation, grant and organizational requirements.
