About The Position

The Vice President of Institutional Affairs, as the external relations advisor, is responsible directly to the President for the planning, development, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the College’s institutional affairs functions, including marketing and communications, government, community, and legislative relations, advancement/foundation functions, community partnerships, satellite campus operations, and intercollegiate athletics. The Vice President will provide leadership and supervision for all areas of institutional advancement and external engagement and will serve as an advisor to the President in the formation of policies and strategies affecting the College’s public image, partnerships, and resource development. This individual has direct responsibility for the development, coordination, staffing, evaluation, and enhancement of institutional affairs programs, including brand management, fundraising, public relations, and athletics, all within the context of the College’s mission and goals.

Requirements

  • PhD, EdD or terminal degree is required.
  • 5–8 years of demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, institutional advancement, higher education or government relations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex budgets and financial planning.
  • Ability to lead long-range forecasting, planning, and goal setting.
  • Strong public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with data systems, i.e., enrollment management, student information, etc.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and make sound, ethical decisions.
  • Ability to be Humble, Hungry, and Smart.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, administer, and provide leadership for all institutional affairs functions in alignment with the mission, goals, resources, and strategic priorities of the College.
  • Provide leadership in the recruitment, development, supervision, and evaluation of administrative staff within marketing, strategic communications, advancement, government and community relations, satellite campus operations, and athletics.
  • Develop, supervise, coordinate, and administer the budget in areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee institutional marketing, communications, media relations, and brand management to ensure consistent, effective messaging.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to local, state, and federal government officials and coordinate legislative advocacy efforts.
  • Lead the development and execution of fundraising strategies, donor relations, and foundation activities to support institutional priorities.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with business, industry, community organizations, and economic development entities.
  • Provide executive oversight of intercollegiate athletics through the Athletic Director, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student success.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and governing bodies related to athletics and institutional operations.
  • Support the development and implementation of institutional strategic plans, marketing initiatives, and major public announcements.
  • Represent the College in community, civic, and professional organizations and serve as an ambassador for the institution.
  • Prepare and submit immediate and long-range goals for institutional affairs programs, along with an annual evaluation report to the President.
  • Support effective decision-making through analysis of data, trends, and external market conditions.
  • Lead and coordinate initiatives that enhance the College’s visibility, enrollment, and community impact.
  • Lead satellite campus operations via campus leaders at the DeSoto Center and the Oxford Center.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across all institutional affairs functions.
  • Represent the College externally to governmental agencies, higher education associations such as the American Association of Community Colleges, and community stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the College President.
  • Set goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with the College’s strategic plan and vision; organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties and delegated tasks.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback.
