The Vice President of Heavy Equipment & Fleet is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational performance, and financial management of the company’s fleet. This role ensures that all vehicles, equipment, and fleet-related systems are aligned with production needs, safety standards, and long-term business growth.

Requirements

  • Experience in fleet management, equipment management, or related field
  • Senior leadership role overseeing multi-location operations
  • Experience in construction, utilities, heavy civil, or similar industry preferred
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large capital budgets
  • Proven ability to scale operations in a high-growth environment
  • Deep understanding of fleet lifecycle management, maintenance programs, and compliance requirements
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a fleet strategy aligned with company growth and operational demands
  • Partner with executive leadership to forecast fleet needs based on project pipeline and expansion plans
  • Establish long-term plans for asset lifecycle, replacement, and capital investments
  • Oversee all fleet operations including procurement, maintenance, utilization, and disposal
  • Ensure maximum uptime and reliability of all vehicles and equipment across jobsites
  • Standardize processes across regions to drive consistency and efficiency
  • Implement systems to track and improve fleet performance metrics
  • Own fleet budget including capital expenditures, operating costs, and cost control initiatives
  • Drive cost efficiency through vendor management, fuel programs, maintenance optimization, and asset utilization
  • Analyze total cost of ownership and make data-driven decisions on repair vs. replacement
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing fleet team across multiple locations
  • Establish clear roles, accountability, and performance expectations for fleet personnel
  • Partner with Operations, Safety, and HR to ensure alignment across the business
  • Manage relationships with vendors, dealerships, leasing companies, and service providers
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing to ensure best value and service levels
  • Oversee procurement process for vehicles and equipment to meet operational timelines
  • Ensure all fleet operations meet regulatory requirements and company safety standards
  • Partner with Safety to enforce DOT compliance, inspections, and reporting
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs to reduce risk and downtime
  • Drive adoption of fleet management systems (GPS tracking, telematics, maintenance platforms)
  • Leverage data and reporting to improve decision-making and operational efficiency
  • Partner with IT to integrate fleet systems into broader company infrastructure
