About The Position

The VP of Engineering is the first leadership hire on the Evergreen Telehealth engineering team and serves as the CTO's operational counterpart. This person owns engineering execution across all workstreams — managing the vendor partnerships, onboarding and leading internal hires, and establishing the engineering culture, processes, and cadences that will carry the company from beta through scale. They must be equally comfortable reviewing a FHIR resource model, running a sprint retro with an offshore team, and presenting a technical roadmap to the board.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in healthcare technology with 5+ years in engineering leadership (Director or VP level) at a startup or growth-stage company
  • Demonstrated experience managing outsourced or offshore development partnerships — must have run a blended team model (internal + external) through at least one major product launch
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS services (HealthLake, Bedrock, Lambda, Step Functions, CDK/Terraform) — does not need to be hands-on daily but must be able to review architecture and IaC with authority
  • Experience in healthcare, telehealth, or regulated-industry SaaS — HIPAA compliance experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with FHIR R4 data models or willingness to ramp quickly — prior interoperability experience is a significant advantage
  • Track record of building engineering teams from 0→1 or 1→10, establishing culture and process in ambiguous early-stage environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — must be comfortable producing client-ready documents, board updates, and vendor communications

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML agent architectures, LLM orchestration frameworks, or agentic system design
  • Prior work with pharmacy systems (SureScripts, NCPDP SCRIPT, ePrescribing workflows)
  • Familiarity with Bedrock AgentCore, Amazon Forecast, or similar AWS AI services
  • Experience scaling D2C health platforms with high patient volume

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day engineering execution across internal team and vendor partner engagement, including sprint planning, capacity allocation, and delivery accountability
  • Establish engineering processes, CI/CD standards, code review culture, and release management cadences from scratch
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison to KMS — translating architecture decisions into workable sprint commitments and ensuring quality, velocity, and knowledge transfer
  • Hire, onboard, and manage the initial engineering team (DevOps/AgentOps, Full-Stack, Backend, Integration engineers)
  • Partner with CTO on architecture decisions and own the translation of architecture briefs into implementation plans
  • Coordinate with clinical/pharmacy stakeholders to ensure product requirements are accurately reflected in technical deliverables
  • Build and maintain the engineering roadmap, surfacing risks and tradeoffs to executive stakeholders proactively
  • Own technical debt tracking, security remediation prioritization, and HIPAA compliance at the engineering process level

  • Life Insurance
  • Supplemental Insurance
  • PTO
