About The Position

Paperless Parts is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead the company's next chapter of growth, focusing on new product lines and faster expansion. This role reports to the CTO and will manage a 25+ person organization through two Directors of Engineering. The position requires balancing the stability and improvement of the core platform with the development of new products, particularly in the rapidly evolving AI market. Success in the first 6-12 months involves launching a new product line, establishing an AI-native Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), and fostering a culture where Engineering and Product collaborate closely towards customer-facing success metrics.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated track record of leading multi-team B2B SaaS engineering organizations through growth phases while continuously improving delivery quality and predictability.
  • Proven success managing through Directors and Engineering Managers, with evidence of developing frontline leaders.
  • Deep technical background in cloud-native platforms, with a track record of architectural decisions that scale under increasing customer load.
  • Experience raising an engineering team's effectiveness with AI tooling and AI-enabled product capability, with a clear point of view on where it works and where it does not.
  • Strong experience partnering with Product leadership to align technical roadmap priorities with commercial objectives.
  • US-based (Boston, MA hybrid).
  • Activities are subject to US Export Control Laws and require US Citizenship or Green Card Holder.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience taking new product lines from early customer traction to scaled commercial production within an established organization.
  • Experience operating within security-conscious software environments (FedRAMP, etc.) or industrial/manufacturing SaaS sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Own engineering delivery, quality, and predictability, establishing an operational rhythm the broader company depends on.
  • Own the architecture and platform decisions that set our foundation for the next stage, including new product architectures.
  • Partner with the VP of Product on a roadmap that delivers real value to customers, sharing ownership of sequencing, trade-offs, and commitments.
  • Partner with the Chief Scientist on the development and execution of our manufacturing intelligence strategy, bringing new AI-driven capability to market.
  • Lead the next step in maximizing AI leverage to shape how the engineering organization works for the future, while maintaining quality.
  • Keep the core platform cheaper to run, faster to change, and more reliable as customer volume grows.
  • Coach Directors and Engineering Managers, establish clear career paths, and direct the hiring plan and selection standards to grow the team without compromising technical or cultural quality.
  • Represent engineering status, capacity, risks, and strategic tradeoffs clearly to the executive leadership team.
  • Responsible for adherence to all security and privacy requirements, rules and regulations and implement as required.
