We’re hiring a Vice President of Development (VP) in Houston, TX. This position is responsible for leading, managing, inspiring, and executing the Houston Division fundraising campaigns (Heart Walk, Cycle Nation, Heart Ball, and Go Red For Women Luncheon). The VP will foster and cultivate a culture around the Houston Division and its vision to maximize revenue and mission impact. He/she will also promote and implement the concept of all staff encouraging and taking care of one another. This is an office-based position that offers a hybrid schedule in a fast-paced environment with the main responsibility of driving revenue in support of our mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a comparable non-profit or sales organization.
  • Minimum of 6 years supervising with a sales or fundraising team.
  • Demonstrated track record of setting, achieving, and exceeding aggressive goals on a sustainable basis.
  • Demonstrated track record of influencing others to action through communicating a shared vision.
  • Ability to establish and execute strategic plans in a highly dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel locally approximately 75% of the time; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill/proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Executive Director on key donor relationships, including stewarding them, but also strategizing on how to deepen impact in time, talent, and treasure.
  • Work alongside the Executive Director on mid-to-large corporate prospecting, sales process, and onboarding. This will include assisting with the management of the Top 25 Prospect List and providing first-class service when bringing a new company into the Greater Houston Division.
  • Have the principal responsibility of securely positioning the Division for aggressive growth in unrestricted revenue on an increasing and sustainable basis through building a dynamic development staff and volunteer leadership talent and capabilities.
  • Have a “Drive for Results” mentality that not only pushes themselves but others as well.
  • Have four (4) direct reports (Assistant Vice President (AVP) Heart Walk, AVP Go Red For Women, and AVP Heart Ball and Development Director, Impact Campaigns) that manage approximately nine development and support staff.
  • Must quickly be able to learn existing donor relationships and partner with direct reports and development staff to deepen and grow in financial and volunteer impact.
  • Lead from a position of collaboration across campaigns, with the best interest of the donor as the top priority, encompassing a “One Voice” mentality.
  • Will aggressively work with four direct reports and development staff on new company growth and development, both in revenue and leadership engagement/recruitment.
  • Partner and continually build a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission of the Association.
  • Through campaign voluntary leadership, help provide timely direction, framework, and resources for volunteers to realize campaign goal success.
  • Provide direct reports with leadership direction on setting dream goals. After setting those visionary goals, the VP must celebrate successes and hold each campaign team accountable for their goals and activities to ensure they are achieved.
  • Foster a professional work environment that promotes and values collaboration, trust, teamwork, empowerment, and professionalism where communication is open, staff celebrate each other’s successes, and conflicts are identified and quickly resolved.
  • Work with the Executive Director and direct reports to maintain a minimum of three (3) years of “transformational” Chairs for each campaign and its events, therefore growing the division's revenue and volunteer engagement.
  • Partner with Southwest Region and National Center resources to provide management expertise, coaching, and monitoring for fundraising events to ensure the aggressive growth of events and focused year-round attention by monitoring internal reports and management of development staff.
  • Work with direct reports and Marketing/Communications event staff to ensure direct and indirect campaign expenses are within the approved budget.
  • The VP will meet weekly with the market Executive Director and report on: Individual campaigns status Individual campaign pipeline management Strategies for growth with current donors Strategic input on larger, multi-year asks for prospects Individual campaign leadership succession, volunteer utilization Development staff successes and opportunities Any HR items with development staff
