About The Position

The finance team plays a critical role in sustaining JBNC’s mission by ensuring strong financial stewardship, transparency, and compliance. We’re seeking a strategic and mission-driven Vice President of Accounting & Finance to provide senior-level leadership across JBNC’s financial operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role oversees accounting, budgeting, audits, grants management, and compliance while serving as a trusted financial partner to JBNC’s leadership. This position is ideal for an experienced nonprofit finance leader who combines technical expertise with strong people leadership and a collaborative mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including 3+ years in a management role.
  • Extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting, grants management, audits, and funder compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor high-performing teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with tax compliance, including payroll, nonprofit, LLC, and corporate partnership taxation.
  • Advanced financial acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting systems such as Abila (MIP), QuickBooks, Divvy, or similar platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Director–level roles within nonprofit or mission-driven organizations.
  • Background in public accounting or audit leadership.
  • Experience presenting financial information to boards and funding agencies.
  • Experience managing investment portfolios and working with financial institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level oversight of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance functions.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, cash flow reports, forecasts, and organizational budgets.
  • Partner with the CFO and JBNC’s Leadership Team on financial strategy, planning, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, tax regulations, and funder requirements.
  • Lead annual audits, financial reviews, and compliance reporting with external auditors and agencies.
  • Oversee financial management of grants, contracts, and donor-restricted funds.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting leadership and staff to promote performance and retention.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, banks, auditors, vendors, and external partners.
  • Oversee JBNC’s investment portfolio in collaboration with the CFO and financial institutions.
  • Leverage financial systems and technology to improve efficiency, data integrity, and reporting insights.
