About The Position

We are searching for an attorney specializing in asset management to support BlackRock's institutional client businesses, which manage assets for institutional clients including public and private pension plans, defined contribution plans, foundations, endowments and family offices, among others. In this role, you will serve as a legal advisor to BlackRock’s retirement business, advising on a broad range of legal issues relating to BlackRock’s provision of investment management services. You must be able to directly and proactively manage, coordinate, and advise across a wide variety of stakeholder teams, including legal, risk management, business and operations teams, on legal, regulatory, disclosure, and commercial matters.

Requirements

J.D. with outstanding academic credentials and six to eight years’ relevant experience as a lawyer in a major law firm, in the legal department of an asset management firm, or at a regulatory agency with responsibility for overseeing asset managers, or other similar relevant experience.
Experience with ERISA, federal securities laws, including the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and other federal and state laws that apply to discretionary asset management (e.g., OCC and state fiduciary regulations).
Outstanding analytical, written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, drafting and interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
A consistent history of working productively as part of a team.
Ability to solve problems in a practical and risk-informed manner, communicate complex concepts clearly, and effectively prioritize competing demands.
Strong organizational skills, a high degree of initiative, and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive matters simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

Experience developing, implementing, or championing AI-enabled solutions, workflow automation, knowledge management tools, contract lifecycle management solutions, or other legal technology initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to improve legal processes through technology and lead cross-functional efforts to design and implement scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

Advising business partners on complex legal issues across multiple asset classes, investment strategies and client types.
Negotiating agreements that govern BlackRock’s asset management services for its institutional clients.
Providing legal advice and consultation with respect to a variety of investment vehicles including bank collective investment funds and separately managed accounts.
Demonstrating comfortable command of applicable law, working creatively in a fast-paced environment, being consistently responsive, and confidently presenting complex issues to senior legal and business leaders.
Identifying opportunities to improve processes that enable efficient and effective legal service delivery, knowledge management, contract negotiation, and risk analysis through the thoughtful application of AI and other technology solutions.
Coordinating complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and assisting the business in designing and implementing solutions across a range of products and services.
