About The Position

The Bank of New York Mellon seeks a Vice President, Full-Stack Engineer II in New York, NY, to consult with internal business groups to provide application software development services or technical support, particularly in more complex situations. This role involves requirements gathering, BRD/SRD preparation with a strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle, and reviewing test plans and test data. The engineer will coordinate the technical design, development, and documentation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems, analyzing and defining requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, and system interfaces. Ensuring application performance levels are met through coding, testing, implementation, and documentation is key. The position requires writing well-designed, testable, and efficient code, developing flowcharts, layouts, and documentation, and maintaining software functionality and currency (addressing technical debt). Active participation in code reviews, applying security and privacy principles, and executing the full lifecycle of software development are expected. This includes developing software verification plans and quality assurance procedures, troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing systems, and ensuring software is updated with the latest features. The role also involves using learning tools like Pluralsight for personal development, providing ongoing maintenance and support for existing systems, leveraging existing products, promoting reuse, and collaborating with other engineers to elevate technology and apply best practices. Cross-functional collaboration with data engineers, business users, project managers, and other engineers is essential for achieving elegant solutions. The role also includes compiling documentation of system procedures written by more senior developers. Remote work may be permitted within a commutable distance from the worksite.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field and seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or in a related IT occupation in the financial services industry.
  • Designing and developing high-volume, low-latency applications using Core Java, Spring Boot, Database Scripting, IBM MQ, Kafka, HTML5, CSS, JSON, and AngularJS.
  • Creating well-defined and robust RESTFUL APIs for payment processing which support SWIFT MT and MX message formats and processes wires and other types of payments.
  • Securing applications using OAuth2 and OIDC for managing authentication/authorization.
  • Using cryptographic techniques and algorithms to sign and secure REST APIs by utilizing encryption, hashing, digital signatures to ensure data integrity and confidentiality in API communications.
  • Utilizing Cucumber for BDD and conducting load tests using Apache JMeter and analyzing REST API performance using AppDynamics and Splunk.
  • Utilizing distributed caching frameworks to maximize API throughput and performance.
