About The Position

The Vice President for Student Affairs serves as the senior executive administrator responsible for providing strategic leadership, vision, operational oversight, and administrative direction for the Division of Student Affairs. The Vice President is responsible for shaping and advancing a comprehensive student-centered experience that supports student success, retention, engagement, wellness, safety, leadership development, and institutional excellence. The Vice President serves as a member of the President’s Executive Leadership Team and works collaboratively with academic, administrative, and student support units to promote a safe, inclusive, engaging, and student-centered campus environment. The Vice President is responsible for the leadership, administration, supervision, and operational effectiveness of all departments and functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs. This position provides executive oversight for student life operations, student conduct, student engagement, housing and residence life, transportation services, student advocacy, student organizations, behavioral intervention efforts, crisis response, auxiliary student service units, and other student-centered operational areas. The Vice President must demonstrate exceptional leadership, crisis management, student advocacy, organizational effectiveness, fiscal oversight, policy administration, compliance expertise, and the ability to effectively manage complex institutional operations within a higher education environment. The Vice President is expected to promote a holistic, student-centered approach that prioritizes student success, student well-being, engagement, belonging, safety, leadership development, and institutional excellence.

Requirements

  • Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Administration, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education administration or Student Affairs leadership.
  • Extensive executive-level experience managing complex student affairs operations, crisis response, student conduct systems, behavioral intervention processes, residence life operations, transportation services, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience working with student success, student advocacy, compliance administration, campus safety initiatives, and institutional crisis management.
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, institutional assessment, operational leadership, personnel management, budget administration, and student-centered program development within higher education environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting federally funded programs, student retention initiatives, grant-supported programs, or student success initiatives within higher education environments preferred.
  • Strong executive leadership and organizational management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of higher education laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional crisis management and behavioral intervention experience.
  • Strong experience with student conduct administration and case management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex student emergencies and student risk matters.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, Board members, legislators, alumni, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong budget management and fiscal oversight abilities.

  • Ability to effectively manage highly sensitive, confidential, and complex student-related matters with professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Strong understanding of emergency preparedness, crisis management, behavioral intervention, and student safety response protocols within higher education environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across academic, administrative, student support, and external stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

  • Provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all departments, operations, programs, and functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Shapes and advances the vision for Student Affairs in alignment with the institution’s mission, strategic priorities, accreditation requirements, and broader educational goals.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and continuously improves divisional strategic plans, operational objectives, policies, procedures, and student support initiatives.
  • Develops, recommends, interprets, and administers Student Affairs policies, procedures, standards, operational protocols, and student-centered practices consistent with institutional governance, accreditation expectations, strategic priorities, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a principal advisor to the President regarding student-related matters, campus climate, crisis response, student conduct, behavioral concerns, student housing matters, and student welfare issues.
  • Promotes a student-centered culture that prioritizes student engagement, student success, retention, inclusion, wellness, leadership development, accountability, and campus involvement (SACSCOC and Title III).
  • Leads divisional assessment initiatives and utilizes data-informed decision-making to improve student outcomes and operational effectiveness.
  • Oversees divisional budgets, staffing allocations, operational planning, and resource management to ensure fiscal responsibility and efficient utilization of institutional resources.
  • Develops and utilizes assessment tools, operational metrics, student engagement data, and institutional effectiveness measures to evaluate divisional performance, improve student outcomes, enhance service delivery, and support continuous operational improvement initiatives.
  • Supports the implementation, utilization, and continuous improvement of student affairs technology systems, student engagement platforms, communication tools, automated reporting systems, and case management systems to enhance operational effectiveness and student support services.
  • Represents the Division of Student Affairs and the College through participation in professional organizations, community partnerships, institutional outreach initiatives, external collaborations, alumni engagement activities, and student-centered institutional events and engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Enrollment Management, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, Athletics, and student support units to support enrollment, retention, persistence, graduation, and overall student success initiatives.
  • Participates in institutional emergency preparedness, continuity planning, and campus-wide crisis response coordination involving student-related operations, services, and student welfare matters.
  • Ensures all areas within Student Affairs maintain compliance with institutional policies, federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and applicable higher education laws.
  • Provides regular reports, recommendations, resolutions, and updates to the President, executive leadership, and the Board as required.
  • Supports the overall success of the institution by participating in institutional committees, strategic initiatives, accreditation preparation efforts, fundraising activities, and campus-wide planning initiatives.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
  • Oversees and enhances the overall student experience from enrollment through graduation, including student persistence, retention, engagement, and student success initiatives.
  • Provides leadership for student engagement initiatives, co-curricular programming, campus traditions, leadership development, and student-centered activities.
  • Oversees Student Government Association (SGA), Royal Court programs, student leadership initiatives, fraternities and sororities, student organizations, and campus programming activities.
  • Supports the development of student leadership opportunities, civic engagement initiatives, service-learning activities, and programs designed to promote student growth and institutional involvement.
  • Provides executive oversight for orientation programs, collaborates with Academic Affairs and other institutional departments in support of New Student Convocation and commencement activities, and oversees student recognition programs and major student-centered events.
  • Supports parent and family engagement initiatives designed to strengthen communication, student support efforts, student success, and overall student engagement with the institution.
  • Supports and promotes diversity, inclusion, belonging, student advocacy, and equitable student support services.
  • Develops and maintains effective communication and relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Handles complex student, parent, faculty, and staff concerns in a professional, timely, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Oversees and collaborates with Campus Ministry, Athletics, Intramurals, and recreational programs to enhance student life and campus engagement.
  • Oversees auxiliary student service areas related to campus life, student wellness, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Monitors and assists in addressing student-related communication concerns, behavioral matters, and social media issues that may impact student welfare, campus climate, institutional operations, or the overall student experience.
  • Assists in supporting institutional brand image and student-centered communications by collaborating with Institutional Advancement, Marketing, Enrollment Management, and campus leadership regarding student engagement initiatives, student activities, and student-related communication efforts.
  • Oversees student dining and food service operations to help ensure food quality, operational effectiveness, student satisfaction, meal service continuity, coordination of summer meal programs, and student meal access during campus closures, emergencies, or inclement weather conditions.
  • Provides executive oversight for Residence Life, Housing Operations, Dining Services, and residential student engagement initiatives.
  • Ensures residence halls and student housing operations are properly managed and operationally prepared for student occupancy, student move-in activities, student programming, institutional events, recruitment activities, and campus tours, including oversight of housing assignments, occupancy management, room inspections, safety compliance, staffing coordination, and residential support services.
  • Provides leadership and administrative oversight for Residence Life and Student Life operations, including supervision of residence life leadership personnel, to support residential student engagement, student well-being, campus community development, and a positive living and learning environment.
  • Oversees housing assignments, residential conduct matters, student occupancy concerns, and residential crisis management.
  • Oversees transportation operations related to student pick-up, drop-off coordination, shuttle schedules, and supervision of student transportation staff and bus drivers.
  • Ensures transportation operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborates with Facilities, Campus Police, Environmental Health and Safety, and auxiliary units to maintain safe and functional residential and student life facilities.
  • Supports oversight and coordination of off-campus student housing concerns, student transition support, and related student housing engagement efforts as applicable.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Dean of Students Office and all associated student support functions.
  • Oversees student conduct administration, grievance resolution processes, behavioral intervention efforts, threat assessments, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Leads the coordination and administration of the Behavioral Intervention Team and crisis response efforts related to student safety and well-being.
  • Handles complex student emergencies, behavioral crises, mental health concerns, and high-risk student situations with professionalism and urgency.
  • Supports student wellness, mental health awareness, prevention, intervention, and student well-being initiatives in collaboration with Counseling Services, Health Services, Campus Police, faculty, staff, parents, and community resources.
  • Oversees case management systems utilized for student conduct administration, behavioral intervention, and student support services.
  • Ensures student conduct processes uphold due process, fairness, accountability, and institutional integrity.
  • Works closely with the Title IX Coordinator, Campus Police, Human Resources, Counseling Services, Risk Management, the Registrar, and legal counsel regarding investigations, student complaints, harassment concerns, student safety matters, and student-related compliance issues.
  • Oversees student grievances, student conduct appeals, parking appeals, emergency student response efforts, student advocacy services, and institutional response efforts related to student behavioral incidents, altercations, fights, and student safety concerns involving students.
  • Serves as a senior institutional review authority for student disciplinary appeals, enrollment-related behavioral matters, and other student accountability processes consistent with institutional policies and due process standards.
  • Oversees and supports student conduct hearings, student disciplinary processes, behavioral assessments, and institutional response efforts involving student safety and accountability.
  • Works collaboratively with the Career Services team in support of career readiness initiatives, internship opportunities, career fairs, student professional development, and student transition planning.
  • Assists in coordinating institutional responses related to student emergencies, student deaths, missing student incidents, campus disruptions, and critical incidents involving student welfare and campus safety.
  • Oversees student health record compliance processes to ensure required student medical documentation, immunization records, health clearances, and related records are properly maintained, current, secure, and compliant with institutional policies and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Serves as an advocate for students while balancing institutional accountability, student development, campus safety, and institutional standards.
  • Oversees student support service areas including: Student Counseling, Accessibility and Disability Support Services, Counseling and Testing Services, Emergency Psychological Services, Student Health Services, International Student Affairs, Student Employment, Educational Support Programs, Student Success Programs.
  • Collaborates closely with Academic Affairs, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Athletics, Career Services, and student support personnel to ensure seamless student service delivery and support student success initiatives across the institution.
  • Supports student retention, persistence, engagement, academic success, and graduation initiatives.
  • Oversees student-centered communication initiatives, publications, and student informational resources.
  • Supports the coordination of student advocacy and intervention services for students experiencing academic, behavioral, financial, personal, or emotional challenges.
  • Oversees Student Food Pantry operations and supports student basic-needs initiatives, food insecurity response efforts, emergency student assistance programs, resource referral services, and other support initiatives designed to reduce barriers impacting student success, retention, and student well-being.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations, including but not limited to: Title IX, ADA, FERPA, Clery Act, Campus Safety and Security Reporting Requirements.
  • Collaborates with Campus Police/Public Safety, Counseling Services, Title IX, and Emergency Management personnel to support student safety initiatives and student-related crisis response planning.
  • Oversees student-related emergency response efforts and ensures swift, appropriate action during health, safety, conduct, and behavioral incidents involving students.
  • Participates in behavioral intervention, emergency preparedness, threat assessment, and institutional crisis response coordination efforts involving student safety, student well-being, and campus operations.
  • Develops and implements policies, protocols, and procedures related to student safety, student conduct, residence life, transportation operations, and student crisis management.
  • Assists in coordinating institutional responses involving student emergencies, campus disruptions, student deaths, mental health crises, and critical incidents affecting student well-being.
  • Supports institutional student wellness, prevention, intervention, behavioral support, and student well-being initiatives through collaboration with campus departments and external community resources.
  • Oversees student-centered outreach efforts, educational programming, resource coordination, and support initiatives designed to enhance the overall student experience and promote student success.
  • Provides leadership, administrative oversight, supervision, mentorship, accountability, and performance management for all departments, operations, programs, personnel, and functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs to ensure effective service delivery, student support, operational excellence, and alignment with institutional goals and student-centered priorities.
  • Provides mentorship, leadership guidance, coaching, and professional development support to divisional leadership personnel and emerging Student Affairs professionals.
  • Encourages employee engagement, professional development, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the division.
  • Coordinates and supports in-service training and leadership development opportunities for Student Affairs personnel.
  • Maintains high standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical leadership.
  • Promotes collaboration and communication across departments and institutional divisions.
  • Promotes accountability, operational effectiveness, and high performance throughout the Division of Student Affairs by ensuring employees and departmental leaders are effectively managing responsibilities, meeting performance expectations, providing quality student service, and carrying out assigned duties in alignment with institutional standards, divisional goals, and student-centered priorities.
