About The Position

Provides executive leadership for all facilities, engineering, and maintenance operations across hospitals, ambulatory sites, senior living, residential, and corporate facilities, excluding real estate functions. Oversees more than 42 million square feet of facilities and over 700 sites of care. Responsible for all labor, operating budgets, and capital budgets related to facilities, engineering, utilities, maintenance, and building systems. Ensures compliance with TJC, AAALAC, FDA, CAP, and other regulatory and accrediting bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required
  • Minimum 15 years of leadership experience in healthcare or research-facility engineering and operations.
  • Strong proficiency with facilities operations software, data analytics, and CMMS platforms.
  • Demonstrated expertise in construction, operations, continuous quality improvement, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Direct oversight of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, carpentry, painting, keying, and other critical infrastructure systems.
  • Lead emergency preparedness, disaster planning, and infrastructure response across the system.
  • Maintain and negotiate collective bargaining agreements for union staff.
  • Establish standardized performance expectations for all Facilities, Engineering, and Maintenance employees and leaders.
  • Develop systemwide capital and equipment budgets and oversee multi-year infrastructure planning.
  • Prepare annual prioritized lists of infrastructure needs and a five-year capital plan.
  • Manage an operating budget exceeding $200 million.
  • Oversee CMMS, corporate command & dispatch center, system standardization of process, procedure, policies, predictive analytics platforms, and related operational technologies.
  • Implement technology-driven strategies for continuous commissioning, sustainability, and operational diagnostics.
  • Establish operational performance metrics and continuous-improvement processes.
  • Administer a comprehensive training and competency program for staff to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee consultants supporting engineering, safety, environmental compliance, chemical treatment, radiation safety, and energy procurement.
  • Collaborate daily with clinical and operational partners to ensure patient safety and efficient facility support.
  • Lead facilities-related risk management, incident response, and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop systemwide infrastructure business plans including emergency operations.
  • Partner with accessibility and sustainability teams to meet organizational goals.
  • Prepare PIRF requests for capital approvals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Lead long-term infrastructure master planning aligned with organizational growth.
  • Support sustainability initiatives including energy optimization, carbon reduction, waste diversion, and water conservation.
  • Oversee continuous energy benchmarking and regulatory reporting.
  • Strengthen Reliability-Centered Maintenance programs and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Standardize asset lifecycle management and facility performance analytics.
  • Provide executive leadership for infrastructure business continuity and redundancy planning.
  • Develop workforce pipelines including apprenticeships and trade partnerships.
  • Provide executive reporting on facilities risks, capital requirements, compliance status, and operational performance.
