Vice President, Electrical Engineering

Mainspring Energy•Menlo Park, CA
•$285,000 - $335,000•Onsite

About The Position

Mainspring Energy is seeking a leader to oversee electrical engineering for its fuel-flexible, low-emissions Linear Generator and associated grid integration equipment. The generator couples a chemical reaction and thermally driven expansion directly to a linear motor through its Adaptive Pressure Cycle, making controls and power electronics central to the system. The role calls for deep expertise across power electronics, motors, inverters, PCBA design, mixed-signal routing, low-noise analog signal conditioning, and high-EMI environments, as well as practical experience bringing power electronics to market with high-volume manufacturing, quality, reliability, and cost in mind. The Vice President will lead and grow the electrical team, guide development systems, product deliverables, roadmap, strategy, and goals, and coordinate closely with controls and software teams. The role partners with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to optimize products for design for manufacturing and cost, and drives regulatory compliance and certification strategy. This position reports to the SVP of Engineering and is expected to be onsite at least 60% of the time. The position is onsite at Mainspring's Menlo Park headquarters. Compensation is $285,000–$335,000 per year, with pre-IPO RSUs and benefits.

Requirements

  • Degree in electrical engineering and 16+ years of experience, including 10+ years managing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record commercializing heavy industrial power hardware, such as utility-scale generators, inverters, or microgrid systems, from initial topology and rapid prototyping through DFM, DFT, and high-volume utility-grade scaling.
  • Proven success growing and managing technical teams.
  • Experience designing complex systems that require balancing engineering, risk, cost, and requirements tradeoffs across disciplines such as firmware/software, thermal, mechanical, electrical, supply chain, reliability, and systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment while building both the company and the product.
  • Deep understanding of power electronics, motors, inverters, PCBA design, mixed-signal routing, low-noise analog signal conditioning, and high-EMI environments.
  • Significant practical experience bringing power electronics to market, including understanding high-volume manufacturing and achieving high quality and reliability at low cost.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to personify the company's core values.
  • Willingness to work onsite at least 60% of the time; the position is based at the Menlo Park headquarters.

Responsibilities
