About The Position

Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) is seeking an experienced Vice President, Data Operations — Private Markets to play a critical role in advancing the data operating model across MSIM's Private Markets platform. The role will be responsible for establishing and operating governance and controls over data received from external fund administrators and internal platforms, helping ensure that critical investment and operational data is complete, accurate, timely, traceable and fit for use across the organization. The Vice President, Data Operations will work across Operations, Investment teams, Technology, Data Governance, Finance, Risk and external service providers to translate business processes and data requirements into practical governance, data quality and control frameworks. The role will establish clear accountability for data, drive consistent standards across sources and platforms, and help ensure that data issues are identified, understood and remediated as close to source as possible. This is an opportunity to help shape how Private Markets manages data as the platform continues to scale and modernize. The successful candidate will combine a strong understanding of Private Markets operations with data governance expertise, a rigorous control mindset and the ability to influence across business, technology and external partners. The role will help move the organization from fragmented and manually intensive data processes toward a more standardized, transparent and exception-driven operating model. The successful candidate will help create an operating environment in which Private Markets data is easier to understand, govern, trust and consume. They will establish practical governance over critical data elements, data quality, ownership, lineage and issue management while maintaining the controls and accountability expected within a regulated financial institution. This role requires someone who can operate at both the strategic and execution levels—helping define the target operating model while remaining sufficiently close to the data and underlying business processes to ensure governance standards translate into practical outcomes.

Requirements

8–10+ years of experience in investment management, financial services or a similarly complex data environment, with meaningful experience in Data Operations, Investment Operations, data governance or related functions.
Strong understanding of Private Markets data and operating processes, ideally across private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure and other alternative investment strategies.
Experience working with data supplied by fund administrators, third-party service providers and internal investment, accounting or operational platforms.
Practical experience establishing or operating data governance and data quality frameworks, including CDEs, data ownership, business definitions, lineage, data quality rules, issue management and controls.
Demonstrated ability to investigate complex data issues, identify root causes and drive sustainable remediation across organizational and external-provider boundaries.
Strong understanding of operational controls and experience operating within a regulated financial-services environment.
Experience partnering with Technology and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable data processes, controls and platform capabilities.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with demonstrated ability to influence across business, technology and external partners.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Systems, Data Management or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Operates with a strong sense of ethics and integrity in interactions with others and decision making.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Private Markets and fund accounting platforms such as eFront, Investran or comparable platforms is preferred.
Familiarity with enterprise data governance, cataloging and data-quality tooling and modern data platforms is beneficial.

Responsibilities

Establish and operate data governance and quality frameworks for critical Private Markets data received from fund administrators, third-party providers and internal platforms.
Define and maintain Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data ownership, business definitions, sourcing requirements and data quality standards across key Private Markets data domains.
Own data quality oversight, including completeness, accuracy, timeliness and consistency controls, exception management, issue tracking and remediation governance.
Drive root-cause analysis and sustainable remediation of data issues, partnering with fund administrators and internal data providers to address recurring issues at source.
Establish and maintain business data lineage and traceability across critical data flows, from source through transformation and downstream consumption.
Develop data quality rules, tolerances and preventative controls that reflect underlying business processes, materiality and downstream data usage.
Partner with Technology and Data Governance on data onboarding, platform enhancements, governance tooling and implementation of scalable data-quality capabilities.
Develop KPIs and management reporting covering data quality, timeliness, exceptions, remediation and recurring issues, using trends to drive continuous improvement.
Represent Private Markets Data Operations in relevant governance forums and partner with stakeholders across Operations, Investment teams, Finance, Risk, Technology and other consumers of Private Markets data.
Contribute to the continued development of the Private Markets Data Operations operating model, including increased automation, exception-based processing and clear accountability across global teams.
