About The Position

The VP, Credit is a senior leader responsible for overseeing credit underwriting, across the Equipment Finance business. This role blends strategic oversight with hands on leadership, ensuring credit decisions support profitable growth while maintaining a strong risk framework. This is a new position.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical and sound decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated successes in areas of financial analysis, collateral evaluation, and credit structuring.
  • Being well versed in interpreting credit bureaus reporting including personal bureaus as well as Dun and Bradstreet reports.
  • Experience with equipment financing products (loans and leases of various types)
  • A strong understanding of financial statements and their analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and collaborating with executive leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of credit policies, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance (AML/KYC, security perfection requirements).
  • Strong mastery of MS Suite and most notable Excel is requisite.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills in both French and English
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial credit risk management and equipment finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading a high-performance team

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent reviews of credit that support the firm’s strategy with growth target.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on credit risk trends and emerging industry developments.
  • Exercise delegated credit authority and provide oversight and guidance for underwriters and credit officers.
  • Review and approve complex or higher‑risk transactions, ensuring adherence to credit guidelines and alignment with risk appetite.
  • Provide recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer and Credit/Risk Committee for transactions exceeding delegated limits.
  • Implement credit policies, underwriting procedures, narratives, and risk acceptance criteria (RAC) in partnership with the Risk function.
  • Support compliance with regulatory expectations, including AML/KYC and equipment finance legal requirements (e.g., PPSA, UCC, perfection of security interests).
  • Ensure accurate, consistent documentation through collaboration with Legal, Risk, Sales Operations and Contract Administration.
  • Support credit risk assessments for key programs, including vendor programs, captive programs, OEM relationships, and specialized equipment segments.
  • Provide expertise in evaluating contingent risk exposure from vendors, brokers, and capital markets partners.
  • Work with Planning/Risk teams to improve reporting frameworks, credit scorecards, and data‑driven decision tools.
  • Mentor and train underwriting staff, supporting ongoing capability-building and consistent application of credit standards.
  • Conduct post‑mortem analyses to improve underwriting and portfolio management practices.
  • Oversee third‑party service providers involved with documentation, valuations, asset inspections, and remarketing.
  • Ensure proper governance, contractual compliance, and risk controls in outsourced arrangements.
  • Foster a collaborative and risk‑aware culture across Credit, Sales, Operations, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Promote accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in credit processes and decision-making.
