About The Position

Morningstar DBRS is seeking an experienced full-time Vice President to join its North American Financial Institution Ratings group in Toronto. The individual will have lead and backup analyst responsibilities on a portfolio of banks, non-bank financial institutions, and credit unions in Canada. The successful candidate will be part of an experienced team of professionals responsible for analyzing banks, non-bank financial institutions, and credit unions in Canada. The analyst’s primary responsibilities will be to act as a lead analyst in managing a portfolio of issuers, including ongoing analysis and surveillance, participate in rating committees and attend issuer meetings. The analyst will also prepare rating committee presentations and publish press releases, rating reports, and related topical research. Strong client facing skills are expected and the lead analyst will be responsible for developing relationships with both issuers and investors. We are looking for highly motivated candidates who are self-starters, keen to learn and have a strong work ethic.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven to ten years of experience in financial institutions credit analysis gained from a rating agency or financial institution or related experience
  • Solid financial industry and specific issuer/financial sector knowledge
  • Strong financial statement analytical abilities
  • Spreadsheet skills
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Strong client facing skills
  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance or a closely related field
  • Excellent business writing, communication and analytical capacity
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and producing high quality work
  • Willingness to travel as required

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree, CPA and/or CFA are a plus
  • Bloomberg skills a plus
