About The Position

The Vice President, Capital & Investments serves as a senior investment executive for the organization and strategic partner to the Chief Investment Officer. This role is responsible for leading the execution of the enterprise investment management platform in partnership with the CIO, including capital allocation processes, portfolio oversight, investment governance and long-term value creation strategy across public and private investments, real estate, operating business and affiliated investment entities. This position requires a combination of institutional investment expertise and business acumen to support the capital allocation priorities of a large, privately held operating enterprise. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day leadership of the investment function, develops actionable recommendations for the CIO and other decision-makers, and helps ensure that capital is deployed in a disciplined manner consistent with enterprise objectives, values, liquidity needs and risk tolerances. Operates with significant autonomy within approved investment policies, strategic asset-allocation parameters, delegated authority limits, and established governance processes. Makes portfolio and operational decisions within delegated authority and develops recommendations for decisions reserved for the CIO, investment committees, executive leadership, or boards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field (Required)
12+ years real estate, financial management or accounting experience (Required)
Extensive experience managing substantial financial portfolios including exposure to capital allocation decisions
Experience presenting to investment committees, board of directors or executive leadership teams
Successful completion of company training and role-specific professional development coursework, within required timeframe (Required)
Current valid driver's license (Required)
Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
Communication skills, verbal and written
Proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel

Responsibilities

Partners with the CIO to develop and implement capital allocation strategies for enterprise-wide assets (equity & debt holdings, real estate, operating business and diversified business ventures), maintaining alignment with enterprise values, goals and risk tolerances
Collaborates with CIO to define decision making matrixes for both operational and strategic investment allocation decisions, provides detailed analysis and recommendations to final decision makers dependent on transaction
Leads the total portfolio analysis across enterprise and affiliated capital pools, including asset allocation, liquidity, risk exposure, leverage, downside scenarios, cash-flow planning and long-term return opportunities as part of a rigorous investment evaluation process
Evaluates, recommends and deploys capital to a variety of assets including public securities, alternative investments, real estate, operating business investments and strategic acquisitions
Ensures investment decisions are aligned with long-term enterprise objectives and risk tolerances. Leads the regular evaluation of short and long-term investment and portfolio strategy
Monitors and reports on diversified investment portfolios across public and private asset classes, including the organizations of real estate holdings and investments
Leads the establishment of financial models, return thresholds and investment performance metrics used through the organization including real estate assets. Communicates critical information to a variety of audiences including executive leadership, operating business leaders and the investment team
Maintains awareness of new investment opportunities and emerging asset classes, collaborating with CIO to integrate new investments into the existing portfolio, maintaining risk and return thresholds
Leads investment due diligence, underwriting and manager selection processes for the organization. Oversees preparation of final analysis and recommendation presentation to senior leadership and board of directors
Serves as a trusted advisor and thought partner in discussions involving family enterprise capital and affiliated investment entities, focusing on providing analysis and support to multi-generational capital preservation and wealth planning
Develops and enhance investment reporting, performance analytics, and risk dashboards
Translates complex investment concepts into actionable business recommendations
Owns comprehensive financial responsibility (e.g., financial plans, budgets, forecasts) for an entire work program to minimize risk and variance, and to maximize contributions to company revenue and margin.
Directs and oversees financial management across one or more levels of employees to optimize financial results for the work program.
Reviews and assesses financial data, reports and records. Ensures employee compliance with related procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Creates and communicates financial targets and goals in order to accomplish broader financial objectives.
Proactively monitors and interprets ongoing financial performance and responds strategically. Assesses and mitigates financial risks.
Translates broad corporate financial plans, targets and KSIs into plans and targets specific for the work program. Contributes to corporate planning, budgeting and issue resolution.

Oversees both short-term and long-range operational planning and resource management through one or more levels of direct reports to optimize productivity and results that are aligned with corporate strategy and objectives.
Develops and implements a range of talent management strategies and activities across the work program, such as evaluating and managing performance, building bench strength, providing formal and informal feedback, recruiting and staffing, employee learning and development, addressing complex employee relations risks and issues, workforce planning and compensation management, etc. Coaches direct reports on a variety of management and HR processes in order to develop effective managers.
Provides feedback and coaching to support team and individual employee performance, learning and career development.
Serves as a change agent by supporting corporate and work program change initiatives. Develops plans to support corporate change management strategies in order to lead and manage change within the work program.
