About The Position

The Vice President, Banking Operations is a hands-on leadership position responsible for strengthening and supporting the operational infrastructure of Bank19, an approximately $120 million community bank. The position provides leadership and subject-matter expertise across key operational functions, including Deposit Operations, Commercial and Retail Loan Operations, Payment Operations, core banking systems, and related operational processes and controls. Bank19 is undergoing a period of meaningful organizational and technological change, including enhancements to its operating model, systems, products, processes, and core banking environment. Accordingly, this role is particularly well suited for an experienced community banker who is comfortable navigating change and who enjoys building and improving systems rather than simply administering established processes. The successful candidate will help design, document, implement, and refine policies, procedures, workflows, controls, and technology solutions that support the Bank's current operations and future needs. Working closely with executive leadership and existing operations personnel, this individual will serve as a collaborative operational resource across the organization. The position requires someone who can move comfortably between strategic initiatives and hands-on execution—helping solve immediate operational issues while also developing scalable processes and infrastructure for the future. The ideal candidate will bring sound judgment, practical community banking experience, strong change-management capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to translate ideas into effective operational solutions. Although the position is primarily focused on bank-wide operations, the successful candidate should understand community bank branch operations and be willing and able to support branch personnel and customer-facing activities when circumstances require.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of community bank operations, with meaningful experience across multiple disciplines such as deposit operations, loan servicing, ACH, wire transfers, card services, electronic banking, account maintenance, reconciliations, or core processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, improve, and document banking processes, procedures, internal controls, and operational workflows.
  • Strong change-management skills and the ability to help employees and departments successfully navigate system conversions, new technology, process changes, and organizational growth.
  • Ability to function as a builder—taking an operational need or concept and developing the systems, procedures, controls, documentation, and implementation plan necessary to make it operational.
  • Strong understanding of how banking systems, operational processes, accounting, compliance, information technology, and customer-facing functions interact.
  • Experience working with core banking systems and supporting technology platforms.
  • Practical understanding of banking regulations, payment rules, internal controls, and operational risk management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to identify root causes rather than simply addressing individual exceptions.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a smaller community bank environment.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document processes and explain operational concepts to employees with varying levels of banking experience.
  • Collaborative leadership style and demonstrated ability to work effectively across organizational and functional boundaries.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, accountability, and willingness to take ownership of operational issues through resolution.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and remain effective in an organization undergoing significant growth and transformation.
  • Generally, 7–10+ years of progressively responsible commercial or community banking experience, with meaningful experience in bank operations.
  • Strong operational experience across several areas such as deposit operations, loan servicing, item processing, ACH, wire transfers, card operations, electronic banking, reconciliations, or core banking systems.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or improving banking processes, procedures, systems, controls, or operational programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Substantial relevant banking experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience participating in a core conversion or significant banking technology implementation is highly desirable.
  • Experience participating in or leading a core conversion, major system implementation, operational restructuring, new product implementation, or other significant change initiative is highly desirable.
  • Prior management or team leadership experience is preferred; demonstrated leadership through project management, process ownership, systems implementation, or cross-functional initiatives will also be considered.
  • Experience within a community bank or similarly sized financial institution is strongly preferred.
  • Professional banking certifications or designations, including AAP, CRCM, or similar credentials, are valued but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and operational expertise across Deposit Operations, Commercial and Retail Loan Operations, Payment Operations, and related banking functions.
  • Support the effective execution of daily operational activities while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, controls, accuracy, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Serve as a key operational leader during Bank19's planned core banking conversion and other significant technology implementations, helping define requirements, evaluate processes, coordinate testing, manage implementation activities, and support employee adoption.
  • Lead and support change-management initiatives associated with new systems, products, processes, organizational changes, and operating procedures.
  • Evaluate existing operational processes and develop improved workflows, procedures, controls, and work instructions appropriate for a growing community bank.
  • Build and maintain scalable operational processes that appropriately balance efficiency, customer service, regulatory compliance, internal controls, and risk management.
  • Develop, document, and maintain operational policies, procedures, work instructions, process maps, checklists, and related documentation.

  • Develop an understanding of Bank19's products and services and ensure that system configuration, operating practices, procedures, and customer disclosures remain appropriately aligned.
  • Establish and improve processes for reviewing operational reports, exceptions, reconciliations, outstanding items, and other information necessary to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Support Accounts Payable, general ledger reconciliation, clearing accounts, settlement accounts, and other operational accounting functions as appropriate.
  • Assist with regulatory examinations, internal and external audits, operational risk assessments, and remediation activities involving bank operations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new products and services, ensuring that operational requirements, systems, procedures, controls, employee training, and customer-facing materials are appropriately addressed before implementation.
  • Support vendor management activities for operational service providers, including implementation coordination, service monitoring, issue resolution, and contract-related operational considerations.
