Reporting to the EVP, Chief Legal Counsel, the Vice President, Associate General Counsel serves as an internal leader, partner, and resource. This role delivers a broad range of general and credit union-specific legal services in support of our organization’s overall business plan and strategic direction. This individual provides timely and accurate legal guidance and expertise to the organization and its affiliated entities.

Requirements

  • Maintains an awareness of current and developing legal issues, federal, state, and local measures, and industry-specific trends, compliance matters, and risks to support strategic initiatives, uphold the Credit Union’s reputation, and maintain legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops and implements contract review guidelines, as well as relevant template documents, to facilitate a smooth, flexible, and standardized vendor contract process.
  • Reviews Credit Union contracts with third parties, providing feedback and ensuring agreements meet Credit Union standards.
  • Reviews marketing collateral and materials to mitigate potential risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as a liaison between Credit Union and insurance brokers and carriers.
  • Supervises claims submission and follow up.
  • Monitors industry trends and risks; disseminates information to Executive / Leadership Team as appropriate.
  • Assesses insurance types and coverage limits for appropriateness and comprehensiveness.
  • Manages cases and claims that can be handled in-house.
  • Works with outside counsel when retained for specialized matters. Evaluates and recommends outside counsel/partners as necessary.
  • Provides legal advice and assistance to internal departments, including, but not limited to, Marketing, Human Resources, Audit/Compliance, Branches, Lending, Loan Servicing, Collections, and Philanthropy/Community Impact departments.
  • Advises on property-related issues, such as reviewing and drafting documents related to new construction, repairs and upfits, leases, and property management and maintenance.
  • Provides feedback on compliance with Arrowhead and affiliated entity bylaws, policies, agreements, and other guidelines adopted by the Board of Directors and management.
  • Assists with development and review of Credit Union policies and procedures, as required.
  • Develops and delivers educational presentations for, and relevant to, Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, Executive Team, Leadership Team, and other internal and external stakeholders/partners.
  • Exemplifies the attitude, aptitude, and ability to learn quickly and efficiently while showing assertiveness in personal development.
  • Independently takes responsibility for learning and development by acquiring and refining of technical and professional skills needed in job-related areas.
  • Provides feedback on department policies and processes to improve efficiency and service outcomes.
  • Maintains all necessary licenses as required for the position, inclusive of satisfying continuing education requirements. Maintains a working knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Accepts and completes all other duties as assigned by leadership as necessary to achieve the goals of the Credit Union, its affiliates, and the department.
