Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/innovative-medicine Purpose: The VP, AI Next Frontier will set the strategy and execution of the AI strategy globally for J&J Innovative Medicine to drive competitiveness, execution and optimization of Innovative Medicine AI efforts. This includes defining the use cases, identifying the fit for purpose AI capabilities, scaling these capabilities across TAs, and operationalizing the next generation of AI capabilities across the Global Commercial Strategy Organization (GCSO). In addition, this leader will steer the AI strategy across regions, influencing budget and delivery, including governance to ensure efficient, synergistic and effective implementation across regions. The leader will be accountable for the AI Next Frontier roadmap for Innovative Medicine Commercial, provide strategic leadership, and drive enterprise-level AI product development and deployment. The VP, AI Next Frontiers will be responsible for continual innovation in AI, including external ecosystem partnerships with tech partners, customers and driving AI Fluency within GCSO. This role spans all TAs and functions in GCSO and partner across functions (legal, HCC, Privacy etc), regions and IT. The VP, AI Next Frontier will chair the Worldwide AI Steering Committee to drive effective and efficient deployment of AI efforts at a cross-regional level. This leader will participate in the enterprise AI Council. The VP, AI Next Frontier will be accountable for the AI strategic budget within GCSO (~$5M) and influence both the investment and the value/ROI of the investment (>$20M) This leader will report into the Chief Global Commercial Data and AI Officer, GCSO. This position is located in Raritan, NJ with consideration to be in Horsham, PA.

Requirements

  • Candidate must possess demonstrated Vice President-level leadership capabilities, including enterprise influence across highly matrixed global organizations, the ability to lead through other leaders, and a strong track record of setting strategic direction, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, driving large-scale business transformation that is clearly linked to ROI and other business impact metrics.
  • This position requires executive communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business strategy, governance decisions, investment priorities, and enterprise execution plans.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience applying AI, product management, machine learning, data engineering, data science, advanced analytics, and related business technology applications to enterprise business challenges, including substantial experience operating at scale across global and matrixed organizations.
  • Proven success leading leaders and cross-functional teams in building and scaling AI-enabled products, or capabilities with measurable enterprise impact, adoption, and sustainable business value.
  • Strong expertise in the application of modern AI technologies, including NLP, LLMs, agentic AI, and supervised/unsupervised learning, with the judgment to determine where these capabilities can create differentiated enterprise value and where they should not be applied.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and translate enterprise business priorities into AI product and platform strategies, operating models, and roadmaps that enable scalable execution across geographies, functions, and therapeutic areas.
  • Clear ability to assess strategic trade-offs, prioritize enterprise investments, and make sound decisions in ambiguity while balancing business value, risk, governance, compliance, and execution feasibility.
  • Proven ability to build compelling enterprise value cases and influence executive stakeholders to invest in AI as a strategic capability, including governance, funding, resource allocation, and long-range capability development.
  • Proven track record of selecting, shaping, and governing strategic external partnerships, with the ability to assess build-buy-partner decisions and optimize ecosystem relationships to accelerate enterprise outcomes.
  • Excellent executive presence, communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated success engaging senior leaders across business, technology, and governance forums to align strategy, resolve complex issues, and drive enterprise decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the global AI Next Frontiers strategy, enterprise roadmap, and execution agenda for Innovative Medicine Commercial, including identification of high-value use cases, fit-for-purpose capabilities, and scalable deployment across therapeutic areas, functions, and regions.
  • Influence senior leadership across GCSO, Worldwide and regional commercial organizations, medical affairs, and data, analytics, and AI functions to align on enterprise priorities, accelerate adoption, and embed AI into business strategy and decision-making.
  • Shape cross-functional strategy and partnerships with R&D, technology, and enterprise data and AI leaders to enable differentiated capabilities, drive operating model alignment, and ensure execution against enterprise objectives.
  • Own strategic investment cases and demonstrate business value and ROI for AI investments exceeding $20MM annually across GCSO and regional organizations.
  • Set priorities and govern budget decisions for global AI external operating and capital expenditures, balancing enterprise value, scale, risk, and execution feasibility.
  • Chair and lead the Worldwide AI Steering Committee, establishing governance, strategic priorities, and enterprise decision forums to ensure coordinated, compliant, and value-driven deployment of AI across regions and functions.
  • Influence enterprise AI direction through active engagement with the J&J AI Council, shaping strategic priorities, investment decisions, and alignment across company-wide AI initiatives.
  • Drive global integration of AI capabilities into CONNEXT and other customer engagement and commercial initiatives, ensuring scalable adoption, measurable business outcomes, and sustained competitive advantage.
  • Lead a high-performing organization of 6 direct and 10+ indirect leaders, building enterprise capability, and ensuring the team is positioned to deliver against long-range strategic priorities.
  • Shape and govern a strategic external ecosystem of technology companies, partners, and healthcare institutions, including vendor selection, partnership strategy, and build-buy-partner decisions to accelerate enterprise outcomes.
  • Serve as an external thought leader and market-facing representative for J&J’s AI strategy, reinforcing the company’s leadership position, strengthening strategic partnerships, and advancing external visibility on emerging AI opportunities and capabilities.
