About The Position

Satsuma Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company preparing to launch AtzumiTM (dihydroergotamine (DHE) nasal powder), a novel therapeutic product approved in the US for the acute treatment of migraine. AtzumiTM incorporates proprietary advanced powder and device technology (SMART – Simple MucoAdhesive Release Technology™) and is designed to be easy-to-use, easy-to-carry, and for quick self-administration. The Vice President, Access and Distribution, will build the market access team across payer strategy & access, pricing strategy, payer policy, and reimbursement. This role is responsible for building and leading the access and distribution organization that directly supports the commercial success of AtzumiTM (Dihydroergotamine) nasal powder in the US. As part of our senior leadership team, the Vice President, Access and Distribution, may also be involved in additional duties, including corporate strategy, sales and marketing strategy, portfolio expansion, commercial operations, supply chain management, asset acquisition, and general business decisions that impact Satsuma Pharmaceuticals. This position will work across the organization to ensure that access and distribution support aligns with project team deliverables to enable the execution of commercial launch plans.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; an MBA or an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience within managed markets roles in account management, formulary access, reimbursement, distribution, program development, contract negotiations, and policy development.
  • 7+ years of national and regional direct account management experience with responsibility across multiple payer types.
  • Proven long-term relationships with 3rd party payers (commercial / government payers), distribution and trade (3PL, wholesale, specialty pharmacy), and healthcare systems.
  • Ability to positively position a new company in Market Access Managed Care to achieve a top pharma image and benefits.
  • Experience with migraine market or CNS disease states is a plus.
  • Previous experience successfully developing and leading market access, including payer initiatives that have supported product launches; well-versed in pharma/payer contracting across multiple channels and various segments; experience with drugs in the pharmacy channel.
  • Flexible, adaptable, diplomatic, and able to effectively deal with ambiguity.
  • Possesses a good blend of strategic and operational experience with the ability to see the big picture and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas, get buy-in, and drive consensus within the commercial organization and across project teams.
  • The ability to travel in order to foster positive customer relationships and manage a remote team is required.
  • Successful experience in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the commercial leadership team and contribute to the development and execution of commercial, operational, and organizational strategies and plans.
  • Oversee relationships with payer organizations and integrated delivery networks, leading contracting and pricing negotiations.
  • Establish and sustain effective relationships with key strategic policy makers, regulators, advocacy groups, and relevant trade associations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to leverage and implement reimbursement, managed care, payer, and healthcare policies that ensure attainment of managed markets business objectives.
  • Develop managed-market pricing strategies aligned with customer and market indications and the overall portfolio to target long-term commercial success.
  • Lead the strategic and tactical development of distribution for AtzumiTM (Dihydroergotamine) nasal powder, as well as identification, contracting, implementation, and operational management of 3PL. This includes ensuring a high level of collaboration and integration with the Brand, Finance, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate with medical affairs team members to ensure the creation of a clinical value dossier for AtzumiTM (Dihydroergotamine) nasal powder, incorporating differentiating and compelling product data.
  • Create and manage departmental budgets to achieve desired goals while aligning them with the broader commercial organization's financial objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures and US healthcare laws and regulations.
