About The Position

The Vice Chair for Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for the department’s educational mission across the continuum of training, including medical students, residents, fellows, and continuing professional development for faculty. This role involves setting a clear vision for educational excellence; ensuring compliance with accreditation standards; advancing curriculum innovation; and fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment. The Vice Chair partners closely with program directors, fellowship directors and institutional education offices, including the GME office, to align training programs with departmental priorities and evolving workforce needs. In addition to overseeing evaluation, mentorship, and faculty development in education, the Vice Chair promotes scholarly activity in medical education and cultivates a culture of continuous quality improvement, preparing trainees to become skilled clinicians, educators, and leaders.

Requirements

  • MD, DO, or PhD degree.
  • Current medical license and appropriate medical staff appointment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Department’s educational mission by developing and executing a vision for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education programs that aligns with institutional and health system priorities.
  • Oversee Graduate Medical Education programs by providing leadership and mentorship to Residency and Fellowship Program Directors, ensuring ACGME compliance, monitoring program outcomes, and supporting trainee recruitment, retention, performance, and well-being.
  • Lead Undergraduate Medical Education initiatives by overseeing the dermatology curriculum, supporting student advising and mentorship programs, and promoting early exposure to dermatology careers.
  • Advance faculty development and educational scholarship by supporting clinician-educators, developing faculty training programs, fostering mentorship, and encouraging scholarly dissemination and educational innovation.
  • Manage educational resources and budgets by overseeing resource allocation, supporting educational initiatives, and advocating for protected time and infrastructure necessary for educational leadership.
  • Represent the Department’s educational mission at the institutional and national levels through committee service, collaboration with interdisciplinary partners, and engagement with organizations such as the Association of Professors of Dermatology.
