About The Position

The Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is seeking a VIB Supply Store Associate (Wage) for the Mark Center Supply Store in Alexandria. This role involves performing stock clerk, cashier, and customer service duties utilizing an automated point-of-sale system. The position offers a consistent Monday-Friday schedule with no nights, weekends, or federal holidays. The stores handle office supplies, janitorial products, and other commercial essentials in a secure federal or military setting. This is a wage (part-time) position working an average of 24-32 hours per week and not exceeding 1,500 hours per employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement, or leave benefits.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, familiarity with internet, Microsoft Windows operating system, and Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to perform duties independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to pass a background check required for access to the Federal Building.
  • Qualified candidates who are blind are encouraged to apply and will receive preference. Blindness is defined as “a central visual acuity that does not exceed 20/200 in the better eye with corrective lenses or visual acuity if better than 20/200 is accompanied by a limit to the field of vision in the better eye to such a degree that its widest diameter subtends an angle no greater than 20 degrees.”

Responsibilities

  • Perform stock clerk, cashier, and customer service duties utilizing an automated point-of-sale system
  • Operate the cash register as needed
  • Provide customer service and assist with special orders
  • Receive merchandise
  • Stock shelves
  • Conduct quality assurance
  • Perform material movement tasks
  • Greeted customers, answered inquiries and phone calls, and promptly escalated concerns to management.
  • Processed sales by scanning items, handling payments, issuing receipts, maintaining records, and generating purchase requests for stock and special orders.
  • Maintained a clean, well-stocked store and used equipment such as pallet jacks, flatbeds, and dollies to move merchandise.
  • Completion of all mandatory federal, state, and agency training.
  • General support of Base Supply Store operations, including completing tasks or projects assigned by the Manager, Regional Manager, and/or Supervisor.
