About The Position

Concept Solutions is looking for a Communications Systems Engineer to join a team of aviation professionals supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Command, Control, and Communications (C3) office. This role is responsible for the engineering, deployment, operation, and sustainment of FAA emergency communications infrastructure, with a primary focus on VHF/FM radio systems, SATCOM, and supporting network services. This position is designated as an Emergency Essential Position and may require immediate response to system outages stemming from national emergencies such as natural disasters, equipment malfunction, or disaster recovery operations with little or no notice. The C3 office is chartered with restoring communication services expeditiously during disruptions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Hands-on experience with two-way radio systems (VHF/FM, LMR, aviation, or tactical communications) required.
  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires 30% or more travel, often involving last minute changes or extension.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • An additional 8 years of experience can replace the degree requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating all aspects of the C3 VHF/FM Communications Systems.
  • Creating an Operational Risk Management plan for installations that minimize risk to the National Air Space (NAS).
  • Designing, Engineering, Coordinating, Installing, Operating, and Maintaining the VHF/FM Communications Systems.
  • Responding to customer objectives and requirements for VHF/FM support, and additionally supporting program Satellite Communications (SATCOM).
  • Planning, surveying, and implementing VHF/FM radio networks for FAA emergency communications.
  • Overseeing, coordinating, and leading field installation projects through FAA acceptance.
  • Supporting local DC area networks and communications needs.
  • Representing FAA as Technical Onsite Representative (TOR) at new installation sites.
  • Completing site preparation, installation of VHF/FM radios and repeaters for the C3 program.
  • Deploying to FAA facilities to fix, repair, and/or replace entire VHF/FM and Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems as needed.
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting returned equipment and providing recommendations to management.
  • Serving as a member of the Communications Support Team (CST), able to travel to support emergency communications during natural disasters.
