About The Position

The Veterinary and Clinical Research Technician will take ownership of coordinating and managing various tasks within our Veterinary Hospital & laboratory operations. This role is critical for ensuring comprehensive veterinary support, efficient biological sample collection, and analytical testing. You will also play a vital role in supporting Pet Nutrition Center research programs and facilitating training for Animal Care Research Technicians.

Requirements

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with active license.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in a veterinary hospital, laboratory or animal care facility.
  • Computer proficiency and knowledge of Google applications or similar.
  • Ability to stand, bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work with cats and dogs on a daily basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Medical Technologist certification.
  • Experience in a clinical or chemistry laboratory.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and meticulous record-keeping, communication, and organizational/planning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct hospital functions including diagnostic testing, radiography, laser treatments, dental prophylaxis, and surgical preparations.
  • Perform Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scans.
  • Administer and manage anesthetic procedures.
  • Oversight of pets in ICU, including IV placement, fluid management, medication administration, and direct communication with veterinarians.
  • Ensure compliance with American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) standards.
  • Perform dental grading methods; collaborate with oral health scientists to ensure accurate and consistent evaluation of plaque, tartar, calculus, and gingivitis.
  • Conduct biological sample analysis utilizing automated analyzers and manual methods to support research and health initiatives.
  • Manage instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting in adherence to lab and manufacturer protocols.
  • Manage the preparation and execution of biological sample collection activities. Liaise with scientists and key stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Manage inventory levels of laboratory supplies and consumables to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.
  • Lead training initiatives for Animal Care Research Technicians, focusing on dental grading, phlebotomy, and radiology.
  • Coordinate annual x-ray safety training for the appropriate parties.
  • Oversee controlled drug inventory in collaboration with veterinarians, ensuring precise record-keeping.
  • Coordinate the preparation and dispensing of prescribed medications, vaccines, and heartworm prevention.
  • Manage the ordering and inventory of medical supplies within the clinic.
