About The Position

This is a per diem, casual, as-needed opportunity for experienced veterinary professionals looking to pick up shifts based on hospital needs and their availability. You will work alongside board-certified specialists and experienced emergency clinicians, providing advanced patient care while supporting one of Hawaii's premier specialty and emergency hospitals. The state-of-the-art hospital features advanced diagnostic technology including ultrasound, CT, MRI, electrochemotherapy, and a full in-house laboratory. Every shift offers opportunities to strengthen your technical skills while caring for complex emergency and specialty cases alongside an exceptional medical team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience in a progressive general practice or at least one year in a specialty or emergency hospital.
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to calculate medication dosages, fluid rates, CRIs, and treatment protocols accurately.
  • Excellent patient handling and technical nursing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and professional in a fast-paced emergency environment.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency.
  • Partner with veterinarians during patient assessments, diagnostics, treatments, and emergency procedures.
  • Place and maintain intravenous catheters and assist with advanced nursing care.
  • Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood, urine, free fluid, and fine needle aspirates.
  • Perform and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Administer, monitor, and recover patients undergoing sedation and anesthesia.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records.
  • Provide compassionate communication and exceptional client service.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.
