About The Position

The Veterinary Technician role is a key part of the veterinary experience at Mosaic Animal Health Center. Veterinary Technicians are challenged to provide the highest possible standard of care for pet patients and pet parents within an engaging and supportive hospital work environment. Beyond completing nursing, medical, diagnostic, and lab procedures, Veterinary Technicians are encouraged to put their love for animals into action via several patient initiatives that positively impact animal health.

Requirements

  • 2 years of clinical experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Understanding of veterinary medical terminology required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred.
  • Experience with general anesthesia and surgery preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize fear-free techniques for handling of patients.
  • Facilitate the veterinarian’s daily schedule by preparing exam rooms and obtaining patient history.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Obtain urine samples via free catch, passing a catheter, or cystocentesis.
  • Process lab samples, perform in-house lab tests, and prepare samples to be sent out to reference labs.
  • Prescription fulfillment and client communication regarding medications.
  • Admit and discharge patients to hospital by following all admission and discharge protocols.
  • Communicate with clients to provide lab results and updates or to check on patients.
  • Communicate any patient or client concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Assist with the euthanasia process as needed, including placing IV catheters.
  • Perform patient aftercare tasks with respect and care.
  • Complete appointments for patients for services such as pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, subcutaneous fluids, obtaining lab samples, giving medications, etc. as deemed appropriate by the veterinarian.
  • Use of digital radiology technology, positioning and restraint for radiographs.
  • Place IV catheters and begin/ maintain fluid therapy.
  • Surgery preparation, patient induction and intubation, and monitoring during general anesthesia.
  • Use of dental digital radiology, positioning for dental x-rays, dental cleaning and polishing.
  • Extubation and recovery of patient and post-op nursing care.
  • Maintain the care, cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments and surgery packs.
  • Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, and other areas of hospital as needed.
  • Complete start-of and end-of days tasks related to hospital cleaning and clinical tasks.
  • Uphold and maintain hospital cleanliness and hospital standards.
  • Understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
  • Assist the Client Experience Representative as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
