Veterinary Technician - Mellina Animal Hospital
About The Position
Mellina Animal Hospital, a full-service small-animal hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, has been serving the community for over 40 years. They provide comprehensive care for dogs and cats, including wellness, diagnostics, surgery, orthopedics, dentistry, and urgent care. The hospital is dedicated to compassionate, individualized care and strengthening the bond between pets and their families. Mellina also offers grooming, boarding, and an on-site pharmacy. They are seeking an experienced and motivated Veterinary Technician to join their 3-doctor practice. This role requires an individual capable of supporting veterinarians and staff in daily patient and client care, demonstrating dependability, and adapting to various situations, including emergencies. The technician will prepare animals for surgery, monitor vitals, perform basic lab tests, administer medications, and maintain a clean work environment.
Requirements
- Veterinary experience
- Active listener, paying close attention to details.
- Dependability and importance of work to clients, supervisors, and other employees.
- Willingness to participate in cross-training and work in all areas of the hospital when needed.
- Ability to easily adapt to situations that arise such as emergencies, taking initiative, and stay calm in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of vaccine protocols.
- Proficient in IV catheter placement.

Responsibilities
- Actively support Veterinarians and other staff in daily patient and client care.
- Observe the behavior and conditions of animals.
- Prepare animals for surgery, monitoring vitals throughout and following surgery.
- Perform basic in-house lab tests.
- Assess patients and update computer records.
- Administer medications IV, IM, SQ, and PO.
- Perform accurate blood draws.
- Place IV catheters.
- Uphold a clean work environment by following infectious disease protocols, handling bio-medical waste, and medical waste appropriately.
