Responsibilities

Take history from client and perform physical assessments, recording observations in the medical record.
Triage patients to determine stability or critical status.
Communicate patient status with doctors, technicians, office staff, and clients.
Educate clients on preventative healthcare and provide follow-up care.
Communicate patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
Perform venipuncture, conduct in-house laboratory tests, and prepare samples for outside labs, reporting results to owners as directed by a veterinarian.
Prepare exam rooms and assist doctors during appointments.
Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by a veterinarian.
Prepare and monitor fluid therapy, including infusion pump setup, IVF setup, fluid types and rates, and CRI calculations.
Assist veterinarians in all aspects of surgical procedures, including pre-medication, setup, induction, preparation, anesthesia maintenance, surgical monitoring, surgical assisting, recovery, post-operative orders, and pain management protocols.
Provide and monitor nursing care for hospitalized patients, including administering medications via all routes and monitoring vital signs.
Admit and discharge patients following all protocols and educating clients on the process.
Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards, and other areas as requested.
Dispense veterinarian-approved medications and patient food, print treatment sheets, discharge instructions, and labels, and record client/doctor communications.
Prepare patients for discharge, including client education on home care and medication.
