About The Position

SAGE Veterinary Centers is hiring a full-time Veterinary Technician for its Critical Care team in San Francisco, California. The role provides hands-on nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients alongside emergency veterinarians, specialists, and an experienced veterinary nursing team. Candidates with Critical Care experience and experienced registered veterinary technicians looking to develop advanced Emergency and Critical Care nursing skills are encouraged to apply. Experienced unlicensed professionals will also be considered.

The position offers a four-day workweek, Sunday through Wednesday, with three days off each week. Compensation is up to $40.00 per hour based on experience and skill set, plus a $5.50 per hour shift differential for eligible hours between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. A $7,000 sign-on bonus is offered for this full-time opportunity. Requirements

• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license is preferred; experienced unlicensed professionals will be considered.
• Strong foundational technical and patient-care skills.
• Experience with skills such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication calculations, anesthesia monitoring, and patient assessment.
• Strong critical-thinking skills and ability to recognize changes in patient condition.
• Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork.
• Desire to continue learning and advancing clinical skills.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in Emergency, Critical Care, ICU, Specialty, or a fast-paced veterinary environment is preferred.
• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license is preferred.
• Critical Care experience or interest in developing advanced Emergency and Critical Care nursing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for critically ill and hospitalized patients.
• Assess patients and promptly communicate important changes in their condition.
• Assist with emergency stabilization, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and continuous rate infusions (CRIs).
• Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, sample collection, and in-house laboratory testing.
• Support sedation and anesthesia, including patient monitoring and recovery.
• Maintain accurate treatment sheets, electronic medical records, and patient documentation.
• Participate in patient rounds and communicate important information between shifts.
