About The Position

VETERINARY TECHNICIANS, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), provide clinical veterinary support, colony management services, and technical expertise for laboratory animals. This role supports high standards of animal health, welfare, and research integrity by performing clinical observations, providing treatments, sample collection for health monitoring, technical procedures, and study-support activities in accordance with approved protocols, SOPs and applicable regulations. The position works under the supervision of DCM management and veterinary staff and is expected to carry out assigned responsibilities independently while keeping supervisors, clinical veterinarians, and researchers informed of animal health concerns, project status and areas of responsibility. Will provide clinical veterinary support for laboratory animals, primarily rodents, under the direction of DCM supervisors, clinical veterinarians, and veterinary technical leadership.

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Experience with laboratory animal handling
• Strong time management, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
• Adaptable and responsive to changing needs
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications

Nice To Haves

• AALAS certification and/or CVT or equivalent
• Undergraduate degree in animal science, biology, or related field
• Experience with anesthesia administration and pre- and post-operative animal care preferred
• Proficiency in technical skills, including but not limited to injections (SQ, IP, IV, RO, PO) and blood/tissue collection

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily clinical rounds to assess, monitor, document animal health
• Ensure investigator compliance with approved protocols and SOPs
• Communicate findings to supervisors, clinical veterinarians, and researchers with minimal supervision
• Respond to animal health concerns and emergencies and escalate issues appropriately
• Administer treatments and supportive care as directed by supervisors or clinical veterinarians
• Complete post-op monitoring, food and water regulations checks, and other required health or welfare monitoring activities
