About The Position

Pieper Veterinary is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians passionate about anesthesia and advanced surgical care to join their Surgery Department at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT. The hospital is VECCS Level 1 Certified and includes specialists in various fields, working closely with technicians and assistants to provide high-quality care.

Requirements

  • Experience with common induction agents, anesthetic agents, and analgesia agents.
  • Ability to calculate CRIs and perform other medical math.
  • Experience with ventilators.
  • Experience with specialty anesthesia, specifically emergent procedures.
  • Ability to read ECG and capnograph and respond appropriately.
  • Knowledge on how and when to use a non-rebreather circuit.
  • Knowledge of when to react to BP readings and what to do in each situation.
  • Skilled in time management with an understanding of the importance of table times.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CPR.
  • Experience with EzyVet and Smartflow.
  • VTS (Anesthesia and Analgesia) certification is highly desirable and would receive additional compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform anesthesia and advanced surgical care.
  • Administer anesthesia, perform drug calculations, and execute anesthetic protocols.
  • Monitor anesthesia effectively.
  • Perform venipuncture and IV catheter placement.
  • Provide restraint for procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to ECG and capnograph readings.
  • Utilize non-rebreather circuits.
  • React appropriately to blood pressure readings.
  • Manage time effectively, understanding the importance of table times.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and provide input.
