About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh (North Hills), PA is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician in Ophthalmology. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist
Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care
