About The Position

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is opening a new hospital in Dunwoody, Georgia, in October 2026 and is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVs), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs), and highly skilled Veterinary Assistants with experience in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Specialty Medicine, or high-volume General Practice. Selected candidates will undergo onboarding and training with the existing Marietta team from August-September 2026 before transitioning to the new Dunwoody facility. This role offers an opportunity to be part of building a premier specialty and emergency hospital from the ground up. The position focuses on supporting advanced diagnostics, patient care, client communication, and ongoing disease management within the Internal Medicine department.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience
  • Experience supporting patients in: Specialty Practice, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Internal Medicine, High-volume General Practice
  • Strong veterinary nursing and patient care skills
  • Confidence with: Venipuncture, Intravenous catheter placement, Sample collection and laboratory processing, Hospitalized patient monitoring, Client communication and education
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, and reach
  • Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to safely restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving hands, wrists, and arms
  • Ability to work in a veterinary hospital environment with exposure to animal dander, fur, cleaning products and disinfectants, medical chemicals, biological materials, vaccines and medications, perfumes and fragrances
  • Maintain visual acuity sufficient for patient monitoring, laboratory work, and medical record documentation

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Internal Medicine consultations and patient assessments
  • Support patients with chronic and complex medical conditions including: Endocrine disorders, Gastrointestinal disease, Liver disease, Kidney disease, Immune-mediated conditions, Respiratory disease, Infectious diseases
  • Obtain detailed patient histories
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and treatment responses
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Assist with ongoing management of chronic medical cases
  • Collect blood, urine, fecal, and cytology samples
  • Perform venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
  • Assist with advanced diagnostic procedures including: Ultrasound support, Endoscopy preparation and recovery, Fine needle aspirates, Biopsy assistance, Fluid collection procedures
  • Prepare patients for diagnostics and treatments
  • Coordinate laboratory submissions and testing
  • Educate clients regarding: Treatment plans, Diagnostic recommendations, Medication administration, Chronic disease management, Home care instructions
  • Support long-term client relationships through consistent follow-up and communication
  • Provide compassionate guidance during complex medical decision-making
  • Partner closely with Emergency and Critical Care teams
  • Assist in stabilization and transfer of medically complex patients
  • Participate in patient rounds and collaborative case discussions
  • Support continuity of care across specialty departments
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
  • Ensure proper handling of medications and equipment
  • Maintain treatment areas and exam rooms
  • Follow hospital protocols, safety standards, and best practices
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and patient advocacy
