About The Position

We are seeking Inpatient Technicians who are personable, self-motivated, and strong communicators with excellent organizational skills. In this role, you will assist with a variety of daily tasks while collaborating closely with all departments across the hospital. The Inpatient Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide care for the hospitalized patients that are deemed stable according to the veterinarian’s evaluation and RBVH’s defined levels of hospitalization. This individual will assess patients and facilitate treatments under the direction of the supervising veterinarian. They will have excellent communication with the supervising veterinarian and address concerns with the patients as they arise. The Inpatient Technician is expected to work with all doctors, technicians, and assistants to perform diagnostics and execute treatment plans for the hospitalized patient.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician in a veterinary hospital.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers, electronic medical records, and data entry.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • LVT, CVT, or RVT credential preferred
  • Previous experience working in an emergency or specialty veterinary hospital preferred
  • RECOVER CPR certification a plus.
  • Experience managing critically ill and hospitalized patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Nursing Skills: Basic husbandry and care for domestic and exotic patients, Monitor patient status: vitals, mentation, pain score, Nursing procedures: phlebotomy, IVC/IVF therapy, cystocentesis, urinary catheter care, medication administration (oral, topical, injectable), restraint, in- and out-patient care, abdominocentesis/thoracocentesis/pericardiocentesis, oxygen cage operation, transfusion therapy, PICC line care, recumbent patient care, feeding and sampling line care, Triage, sedation/anesthesia monitoring, recognize CPA & initiate CPR
  • Medical Knowledge: Disease processes and disinfection protocols, Basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology (Cubex use, common medications), Medical math, lab skills (basic bloodwork, lab submissions), radiograph positioning, medical terminology
  • Technical & Administrative Skills: Record keeping, equipment operation, stocking and cleaning, aftercare, Knowledge and adherence to hospital policies
