About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is looking for a full time dedicated and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our Sunnyslope Public Clinic. This role involves working 4 10-hour shifts split between Monday-Friday and eventually Saturdays from 6:45 am-5:15 pm (end time can vary depending on clinic needs). The position is at a low-cost animal clinic, assisting the public in the wellness of their animals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic or hospital required.
  • Expertise in phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology and pharmacology required.
  • Must be proficient in anesthesiology.
  • Demonstrate commitment to spay/neuter initiatives with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a veterinary technician program and certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting veterinarians in all aspects of care for owned animals in the community.
  • Working in the Spay/Neuter and Wellness programs.
  • Prepping for surgery.
  • Anesthesia monitoring.
  • Patient recovery.
  • Laboratory diagnostics.
  • Restraining/handling animals.
  • Administering prescribed medications (oral, IV, IM, SQ).
  • Client education.
  • Maintaining clinic asepsis.
  • Providing excellent patient care in all perioperative phases for up to 60 cats and/or dogs per day.
  • Administering injections (IV, IM, SQ) as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Intubating animals, placing intravenous catheters, performing venipuncture and administering fluids as needed.
  • Monitoring vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in preoperative, operative, and postoperative phases.
  • Administering microchips and filling prescriptions.
  • Staying current in knowledge of emergency drugs and protocols.
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with the public and all staff members.
  • Preparing home-care instructions and receipts for all services performed.
  • Filling prescriptions from veterinarian's written or verbal orders and providing clients with instructions for administration of prescriptions.
