About The Position

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is seeking a Daytime ICU / Emergency Veterinary Technician to join their collaborative, specialty-focused hospital. This role is ideal for professionals who want to practice advanced medicine, refine ICU and emergency skills, and work alongside ER doctors and specialists while maintaining a daytime schedule. This is not a general practice role. The hospital is looking for technicians who are confident, clinically driven, and ready to contribute to life-saving care in a fast-paced emergency and specialty environment. The role emphasizes true ICU- and ER-level medicine in a Specialty & Emergency hospital with high case complexity and collaboration between ER, Internal Medicine, and Specialty departments. It offers daytime schedules with 4x10s or 3x12s for better work-life balance and a strong emphasis on autonomy, critical thinking, and advanced technical skills within a supportive, team-driven culture that values technician expertise and voice.

Requirements

  • 2–3+ years of veterinary hospital experience required
  • Emergency, ICU, or Specialty experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced technical proficiency in anesthesia, emergency procedures, and critical patient monitoring
  • Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Comfortable managing complex cases in a fast-paced environment
  • Physically able to lift, restrain, and stand for extended periods
  • A patient-first mindset and commitment to gold-standard medicine

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT)
  • Prior experience in Emergency, ICU, or Specialty Medicine
  • Familiarity with critical care protocols and specialty diagnostics

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on care and continuous monitoring for ICU and emergency patients
  • Assist with emergency stabilization, triage, and urgent interventions
  • Perform advanced technical procedures, including: IV catheter placement and blood collection, Blood transfusions and advanced patient monitoring, Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery, Diagnostic imaging (radiographs)
  • Support Internal Medicine diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, and advanced laboratory testing
  • Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ, oral, and injectable routes
  • Deliver detailed treatment execution and patient monitoring throughout hospitalization
  • Communicate patient updates, treatment plans, and next steps with clarity and compassion
  • Support client education during emotionally complex or high-stress cases
  • Ensure seamless continuity of care between departments and shifts
  • Work closely with ER clinicians, ICU teams, and specialty services
  • Participate in case rounds and interdisciplinary communication
  • Maintain accurate, thorough medical records and treatment logs
  • Ensure ICU, treatment, and clinical areas remain clean, stocked, and hospital-ready
