About The Position

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is expanding with a new hospital opening in Dunwoody, Georgia, in October 2026. We are seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVs), and skilled Veterinary Assistants with backgrounds in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, ICU, Specialty Medicine, Surgery and Anesthesia, or High-Volume General Practice. Selected candidates will train at our Marietta hospital starting September 2026 before transitioning to the new Dunwoody facility. This role offers an opportunity to build a premier specialty and emergency hospital and is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments, enjoy problem-solving, have strong technical skills, and wish to work alongside specialists.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of veterinary experience preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Emergency Veterinary Hospital, Specialty Veterinary Hospital, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Urgent Care, High-Volume General Practice
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a shift
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and lift patients or equipment
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance
  • Ability to perform physical patient restraint and handling
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced emergency and critical care environment
  • Ability to work around animal dander, fur, saliva, cleaning products, disinfectants, medical gases, and other veterinary-related substances
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members in stressful situations
  • Venipuncture and blood collection
  • IV catheter placement

Responsibilities

  • Assist with emergency patient intake and triage
  • Obtain patient histories and assess presenting concerns
  • Support stabilization of critically ill and injured patients
  • Assist veterinarians during emergency procedures and treatments
  • Prepare patients for diagnostics, surgery, or specialty consultations
  • Provide compassionate support to clients during stressful situations
  • Monitor hospitalized and ICU patients
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments and nursing care
  • Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and treatments as directed
  • Monitor pain levels and patient comfort
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate findings promptly
  • Maintain accurate treatment sheets and medical records
  • Perform venipuncture and blood collection
  • Perform intravenous catheter placement
  • Perform sample collection and laboratory processing
  • Provide diagnostic imaging support
  • Manage fluid therapy
  • Perform ECG monitoring
  • Manage oxygen therapy
  • Perform advanced patient monitoring
  • Assist with emergency surgeries and urgent procedures
  • Support anesthesia induction and monitoring when needed
  • Assist with patient recovery and post-procedural care
  • Prepare equipment and treatment areas for emergency interventions
  • Collaborate with Emergency Doctors, Criticalists, Specialists, and support staff
  • Partner closely with Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, and Diagnostic Imaging teams
  • Support continuity of care across departments
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture
