About The Position

Dogwood Veterinary Specialty and Emergency is opening a second hospital in Dunwoody, GA in October 2026. They are building their founding Dermatology Team and seeking Veterinary Technicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs), and experienced Veterinary Assistants interested in Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Client Education, Specialty Medicine, or Advanced Patient Care. Selected candidates will train at their Marietta hospital starting August 2026 before transitioning to the new Dunwoody facility. This role offers an opportunity to build a premier specialty and emergency hospital from the ground up. The hospital also anticipates future opportunities in Surgery and Anesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Emergency and Critical Care.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ year of veterinary experience preferred
  • Experience within General Practice, Urgent Care, Emergency Veterinary Hospitals, or Specialty Veterinary Hospitals
  • Strong foundation in Animal Handling and Restraint

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift, carry, and assist in restraining patients weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance available when appropriate
  • Ability to safely handle and work around animals of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical conditions
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring manual dexterity, including patient restraint, sample collection, data entry, and equipment operation
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment with frequent movement between exam rooms, treatment areas, and specialty departments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, veterinarians, specialists, and team members in person, by phone, and electronically

  • Successfully passed the VTNE
  • Obtained licensure within the past three years

Responsibilities

  • Assist specialists during dermatology consultations and examinations
  • Support patients with environmental and food allergies, chronic dermatitis, otitis and ear disease, skin infections, and autoimmune and immune-mediated skin disorders
  • Provide ongoing nursing support for chronic dermatology cases
  • Monitor patient comfort and treatment response
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples
  • Perform and assist with skin scrapings, cytology preparation, ear cytology, fungal culture collection, and diagnostic sample handling
  • Support allergy testing and specialty diagnostics
  • Maintain accurate diagnostic records and documentation
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Assist with topical therapies, medicated baths, allergy treatment protocols, and minor dermatologic procedures
  • Support sedation and anesthesia when required for specialty procedures
  • Educate clients on chronic allergy management, medication administration, preventative care strategies, and home care recommendations
  • Reinforce treatment plans and follow-up recommendations
  • Build strong client relationships through communication and support
  • Help improve long-term patient outcomes through education and compliance
  • Maintain accurate medical records and treatment plans
  • Ensure exam rooms and dermatology equipment remain organized and prepared
  • Collaborate with specialists, technicians, assistants, and client service teams
  • Deliver exceptional patient care and client service throughout every visit
